Item Determinants of Academic Performance: A Study among the Undergraduates of Sri Lankan State Universities(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Rupasinghe, P. D. D. H. K.; De Silva, G. H. B. A.The purpose of this study is to perform a scientific study on the causality of academic performance level in comparison with the emotional level of the undergraduates. Therefore, the general objective of this study is to assess the impact of emotional intelligence on level of academic performance among state university sector undergraduates in Sri Lanka. The researcher adopted a mixed method approach to scientifically collect data, analyze and come to a conclusion. The first half of the methodology was based on quantitative methodology and the findings of the statistical analysis was validated and confirmed using the qualitative data. The final sample consisted of 211 undergraduates selected at the convenience of the researches, from state universities in Sri Lanka. Data for the statistical analysis was collected through a structured questionnaire. Convenience sampling technique was applied to select the sample. The data was analyzed using Excel, SPSS and Atlas ti. The statistical analysis provided the correlation, chi square, and logistic regression that confirmed the direction of the relationship between the Emotional Intelligence and the Academic Performance. The results from Correlation Analysis, show that there is a weak positive relationship between emotional intelligence and level of academic performance. The gender of the undergraduates moderates the relationship between emotional intelligence and the level of academic performance. The qualitative data analysis reveals that there are seven factors other than Emotional Intelligence to determine on the level of academic performance. The found factors are commitment, language, work life balance, capacity, awareness, stress, medical reason, happiness and social media. The findings of the current study again confirm the general notion that the importance of emotional intelligence has been a must needed feature in learning partnersItem Determinants of Online Buying Behaviour(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) De Silva, G. H. B. A.The emerging digital economy has opened up new paradigms for retailing, and consumers across the world face new opportunities and challenges. However, the online firms face various problems today. The shopping cart abandonment in online shopping context is one such serious concern at present. On average, 71% of shopping carts are abandoned without a purchase. As a result, the researcher intends to probe the causes of online shopping cart abandonment in this study. According to the theory of planned behaviour, if there is a positive behavioural intention supported by favourable perceived behavioural controls online customers should end up with buying the product. However, abandonment of shopping cart is a situation that goes against this theory. The data was collected from online buyers across the world (n = 521) who were selected based on convenience in accessing them. This study while supporting the demographic factors of Age, Status and Gender to determine the abandonment behaviour shows there is no such relationship between geographical divide and abandonment behaviour. Moreover, this study suggests the executives and scholars to consider Age, Status and Gender when segmenting the markets in online context to minimize the abandonment behaviour and not to focus more on the geographical divide in such instances.Item Determinants of Work Family Conflicts of Duel Career Married Couples in Sri Lanka(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Rathnayaka, U. A. D. T. D.; De Silva, G. H. B. A.The main purpose of this study is to identify the key factors determining the work family conflicts and the level of impact of them on work family conflicts of duel career married couples in Sri Lanka,. The factors to determine this level of relationship had been identified in line with several research objectives derived from previous literature on personality factors, Spousal Support and Organizational Support. The hypotheses of the study suggested a linear positive relationship of organizational support (IV) on work family conflict (DV) whilst the spousal support (MV) moderated the relationship despite the personality attribute of each individual. However, it has been assumed that the personality factor (CV) controls the relationship of IV, DV, and MV and vice versa. For this descriptive study primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire. 83 valid responses were considered for the final analysis. The causality was tested using the Pearson correlation tests, and the level of impact of all the relationship had been tested using chi-square test, logistic regression test including the controlling impact analysis. Findings revealed that Organizational support, Spousal support and the Personality type of the respondents are major determinants of work-life conflicts and have significant impact on work-life conflicts among duel career married couples in Sri Lanka.Item The Effect of Cyberloafing on the Job Performance of Gen Z Employees in Private Banks In Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka, 2024) Nadeeshani, W. G. W.; De Silva, G. H. B. A.This study investigates the impact of cyberloafing on the job performance of Gen Z employees in private banks in Sri Lanka. Cyberloafing refers to the personal use of the Internet during work hours for non-work-related activities. The study adopts a quantitative approach, using online surveys to collect data from 175 employees in private banks. The data is analyzed using statistical techniques with SPSS to test the hypotheses. The results reveal that cyberloafing has a negative effect on employee performance, but cyberloafing and employee performance in Generation Z are unaffected. These results suggest that cyberloafing does not differ as generations. However, limitations include lack of clarity, sampling method is non probabilistic and not generalizable, insufficient sample, limited scope, methodological limitations. Future research endeavours are encouraged to explore deeper into cyberloafing dynamics, exploring diverse contexts and employing qualitative methodologies to enhance the comprehension of this phenomenon.Item The Effect of Facebook Usage Intensity and the Personality Type of Individuals on Academic Performance: A Study among Final Year Undergraduates of Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Sandamali, K. H. B. A.; Sandanayaka, T. C.; Firdhous, M. F. M.Smartphones became an integral part of household & corporate management across all industries which resulted in high screen time, & smartphone addiction during the pandemic. This study attempts to examine the association between sociodemographic factors, & perceived smartphone addiction towards real smartphone addiction. Kwon's (2013) validated Smartphone Addiction Survey was used to collect data from the identified subjects (n = 192), and descriptive analyzes and statistical crosstabs were used to infer the associations. The results portray that Sex and Age are strong predictors of smartphone addiction: females over males tend to get addicted to smartphones, while age below 25 is highly addicted to smartphones, and age over 41 is less smartphone addict. The level of education is a moderately fair predictor of smartphone addiction. The higher the level of education, the higher the tendency to become addicted to smartphones. Marital status is not a good predictor of smartphone addiction in context, and there is no difference between being married or not of smartphone addiction. Perceived smartphone addiction is a good predictor of smartphone addiction, who believe they are addicted are more likely to become addicted to smartphones, and vice versa.Item The Impact of Workholism and Demographics on Marital Disaffection of Employees(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Sarathchandra, D. W. P. Y.; De Silva, G. H. B. A.Marital disaffection has become a serious issue in the present society across the globe. Moreover, the marital disaffection among the working community keep growing at a higher pace than expected nowadays. It is quite evident that loving the work place more than loving the family had created many new problems in society like marital disaffection. Hence, the objectives of the study are to assess the relationship type between demographics / workholism and the marital disaffection and to assess the level of impact between the causal factors and resulting factors. Primary data was collected from a sample of 71 participants drawn following convenient sampling method from the population: working and married crowd. The researcher has used a validated and standard questionnaire as the primary data collection instrument. The statistical data analysis of the study was done using SPSS and tests of correlation and regression have used in order to test the relationship and the impact respectively. Further researcher used chi-square analysis technique to validate the relationship between demographic variables and the marital disaffection. The test results indicate that there is a positive relationship between workaholism and marital disaffection and the impact of workholism on marital disaffection is significant. It also indicates that gender and working sector have significant relationship with marital disaffection whereas age, marital status, years married, no of children, income per month and no of sleeping hours are not determinants with a significant impact. Females and the public sector people show less tendency towards marital disaffection All in all, the study showcases that the marital disaffection among the married people in Sri Lanka is caused by the workaholic behavior of the spouse, gender of the spouse, and sector the spouse working forItem An investigation of visually impaired learners marginalized in an online classroom environment(IEEE, 2021) De Silva, G. H. B. A.; Sandanayaka, T. C.; Firdhous, M. F. M.Despite their abilities or skills, all students had to attend online classes in universities last two years. Visually Impaired Learners (VIL) had unexplored problems associated with existing learning technologies, pedagogy, students per se, and facilitators in online classrooms. The objective of this study is to identify these problems and causes and to propose a theoretical model as a solution. The study identified 10 main problems causing dissatisfaction with VIL in online classrooms: the accessible devices and connectivity problems, the teaching-learning platform problems, lack of adequate training for teaching staff, pedagogical approach problems, lack of individual attention, inadequate time (extra) for learning and assessment, limitations of individual (reserved) space, limitations of assessment methods and platform, unavailability of the peer support, and unavailability of bilingual communication. The proposed theoretical model suggests consolidating learning technology with pedagogy, students, facilitators, and an extended learning environment to enhance the online class experience for VIL.Item The Moderating Effect of Learner Satisfaction on Relationship between Perceived E-Learning Usefulness and Perceived Learning Outcome Achievement(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka, 2024) Maheshika, W. M. G.; De Silva, G. H. B. A.In today's context, e-learning has emerged as a highly popular and influential mode of education. E-learning is successful when it facilitates students in acquiring requisite knowledge. Although there is enough literature on E-Learning, e-learning outcome achievement and learner satisfaction. There is less research context in Sri Lanka to test e-learning's impact on student outcomes and the current study assessed the moderating effect of learner satisfaction on relationship between perceived e-learning usefulness and e-learning outcome achievement among management undergraduates in University of Kelaniya. This study was carried sample of 213 management undergraduates randomly from university of Kelaniya and primary data was collected through a standard questionnaire as google form via online mode through a google survey. The collected data were analyzed using correlation, regression and descriptive statistics.
