    Corporate Social Responsibility in Municipal Councils of Sri Lanka (With Special Reference to Solid Waste Functions)

    There has been a growing knowledge about the corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the modern communities. The CSR includes the feeling or ethics of the good relationship between organizational activities and civil society. There are two kinds of stakeholders in CSR such as internal and external. Three major administration structures can be seen in Sri Lanka; the Central government, Provincial councils and Municipal council (MC). Structure of the MC is the third and lowest level of administration in Sri Lanka. There are 23 MCs in Sri Lanka in 2011. Municipal solid waste is creating a lot of issues in urban areas. The objectives of the study on CSR in MCs of Sri Lanka; to identify stakeholder satisfaction, to recognise priority factors of CSR and to recognise similar groups of the CSR. Sample size is 200. Percentage analysis, multiple regression analysis and factor analysis were used as statistical tools. Aspect of external stakeholders, CSR has failed in MCs in Sri Lanka. Therefore the study recommended that, CSR program can be prepared as a system and mechanism between external stakeholders (employees) and internal stakeholders for getting the maximum benefit for both parties. Due to the cleaning of environment is an important factor for each person for the purpose of reducing or eliminating diseases from society.

    Effect of The Leader – Member Relationship on the Organizational Commitment towards Sales Force Turnover Intention of Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Sector of Sri Lanka: A Conceptual Review

    Leader –Member relationship (LMX) has been identified by many scholars as an antecedent towards the Organizational Commitment (OC) of the employees. Many academics have concluded that OC is the strongest predictor towards employee turnover. This theory has been tested in the Western world but unfortunately very little literature is found in the Asian Context. When you look at more specifically in the Sri Lankan context with a focus on the sales force in the FMCG industry, the theoretical support on the relationships amongst these variables is almost zero. Few research conducted in this arena has identified that the sales force turnover is a critical issue faced by the FMCG industry during the post- war era in Sri Lanka. Therefore, this study intended to enlighten the knowledge on the antecedents towards the sales force turnover in the FMCG industry in Sri Lanka with a clear focus on the organizational commitment of the members in the sales force influenced by the leader member relationship. The discussion of empirical thoughts supports the managers in the industry to consider sale force motivation strategies holistically rather limiting to financial perspectives. Paper concluded the future research directions addressing to the key empirical contents discussed.

    Employee Retention and Job Satisfaction of Public Sector School Teachers in Sri Lanka

    Job satisfaction is an agreed to favor condition of the workplace that affects both organizational and emotional feelings which employee attitude work friendly. The study objectives are identified the factors of job satisfaction, it’s level and priority of variables in public sector school teachers in Sri Lanka and the demographic factors which are influenced on the variables of job satisfaction of public sector school teachers in Sri Lanka. Further, comparatively male teachers are very less figures as school teachers in Sri Lanka. The statistical tools were adapted to test the study such as average rank analysis, percentage analysis and ANOVA, the test was calculated at the 5% level of significance and all the analyses were carried out using SPSS - 17.0 version. The trends of, negative effectiveness of job satisfaction were displayed in public sector school teachers of Sri Lanka. The study found that respondents are dissatisfied with their services due to the main reason of compensation.

    An Evaluation on Risk and Return of Mutual Funds in India

    The Indian capital market has witnessed unprecedented developments and innovations particularly during the decades of 1980s and 1990s. The review studies have analyzed different types of mutual funds by using various measures. Hence, the present study analyzed the risk and return of mutual funds performance of top performing funds for the last three years (2008- 2010). The study concluded that beta values of top six schemes were significantly related to their market index values. The sample of schemes namely Reliance Banking Fund-Growth Plan- Growth Option and UTI Transportation and Logistics Fund - Growth are significantly related to their market value in 2010 only. All sample schemes except Reliance Banking Fund-Growth Plan-Growth Option earned negative returns in the year 2008. Results of the study indicate that the all sample schemes earned positive return in the year 2010.

    Exhaustion and stress: an empirical study among workers in apparel industry of Sri Lanka

    Stress is a normal part of human life in the modern world. And everyone has to cope with it. The effect of stress is a deviation from the existing physical and psychological damage of human life. The aim of this paper is to identify the level of stress among apparel industry workers in Sri Lanka. A sample of 50 workers from 10 factories in apparel industry under Board of Investment (BOI) was randomly chosen for the purpose of this study. Once upon a time the apparel industry is the largest foreign exchange earner and a key generator of employment in the Sri Lankan Economy. However, Sri Lanka is no longer maintaining its comparative advantage in the apparel industry. The study has found that majority of Stress Related Factors are inter correlated and significantly influenced stress.

    Stressful Work and Job Strain of Truck Drivers in Moratuwa Urban Council Area - Sri Lanka

    Stress is a natural effect in normal life. The objectives of the study are to study the level of stress among truck drivers in Moratuwa urban council area and to identify the relationships between variables of occupational stress among truck drivers. A sample of 50 drivers out of 200 trucks drivers in Moratuwa urban council area was randomly chosen for the study. The primary data collection was done through questionnaire. The statistical tools were adapted to test of the study such as percentage analysis, regression analysis and ANOVA. All the tests were conceded at 5% level of significance and all the analyses were carried out using SPSS ? 11 version. The study has found that majority of stress related variables are significantly influenced to stress. The study concluded that there are psychological illnesses amongst truck drivers in Moratuwa urban council area and the illness had created to physical weakness of the human body of the drivers.

    Work - Family Conflicts among Female Branch Managers in Private Sector Commercial Banks of Sri Lanka

    The work family conflict is one of the issues in modern society. The objectives of this study are; to identify the important variables of work-family conflict among female branch managers, to study relationships between the variables in work family conflict among female branch managers and to identify equal groups of the work- family conflict among female branch managers. A sample of 25 managers - branches were randomly chosen for this study. The primary data collection was done through questionnaire and questions were scaled using the five point Likert scale. The statistical tools were adapted to analysis of the study such as factor analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. All the tests were carried out at 5% level of significance and all the analyses were carried out using SPSS - 17.0 version. The results of the study indicated that some factors in the work- family such as work demand and family involvement are higher the priority for work-family conflicts among female branch managers.
