    Library Collection in Textile Industry Libraries: Seethawaka Export Processing Zone.

    The collection is the most important resource in a library. The collections are varied and diversified with their contents. The collection in a library should be arranged in a system, which is very convenient to use for the readers and the library staff. If collections are updated and increased, it will be great support to provide valuable and relevant information services for their customers. The principal objective is to identify diversified collections in textile industry libraries. Other objectives are to examine present status in textile libraries and to explore the financial situation in these libraries. Survey research method used for the study. Population was all textile industry libraries in Sri Lanka. Sample was the fiveselected textile industry libraries in Seethawaka Export Processing Zone. They are JAY JAY MILLS, ORIT APPAREL, TEXTERED JURSEY, CONCORD APPAREL, HIDRAMANI MERCURY APPAREL. There are twelve export-processing zones in Sri Lanka and the Seethawaka is the third biggest zone. The study revealed that most of collection was fiction in all the five libraries. Most of the collections are available in JJM library. There are 2500 and fiction was 2114 from JJM. Collection of those libraries except the JJM library was not up to date and the annual budget allocation was not sufficient to develop the collection. When considered the readers requirements and demands the collection was not sufficient in all libraries. Majority of libraries are not following library qualities and standards. Thus, the study concluded that there was no good collection development and maintenance in those libraries. It is a dire need to expand library budget for purchasing adequate library materials. Scarcity of qualified and trained library staff is another issue so that the companies should pay more attention to recruit qualified staff. This will help for the provision of better library service with adequate library collections.

    Reading habits among school students: A study based on school children in Dehiovita educational zone

    Today readers are tomorrow leaders .People tend to read become knowledgeable persons .If child and elder people have good and correct reading habits, it is a good opportunity to make an intelligent society .The school students can obtain good quality education from successful reading .The main objective of this study is to explore and identify the reading habits of school students. The other objectives are to study the factors for upgrading their reading habits, the internet use for effective reading and to study what are the information some schools need .They compel for reading place and time spend for reading .The survey research method was used for this study .There are nearly 10,000 schools in Sri Lanka .The Kegalle district in Dehiovita region has 279 schools .The population of this study is A/L art subject doing students in schools .The sample was 137 students selected form three schools. Rathnavali Maha Vidylaya Mattamagoda, Sri Sena Maha Vidyalaya Imbulana, Dehiovita National school Dehiovita .A questionnaire was administered to obtain primary data among the sample .Interviews were also done for collecting data .Data analysis was done using SPSS software. It revealed that more school students prefer to use internet than reading books .They search information but they use it mainly for entertainment purposes than academic work both male and female students use library mainly for entertainment purposes .Most students are reading less than one hour at home .Both male and female students do not use school library once a week. As suggestions, students should be informed academic blogs, web sites and other organized websites .Actions have to be taken to motivate the students to organize reading societies .More hours should be allocated for the library period.

    Role of Library in a Practical Based Design Education: with Special Reference to Raffles Design Institute in Colombo, Sri Lanka

    The contribution of academic library for development of student’s education and the learning outcomes should be much appreciated. Library is the heart of all the colleges, Institutes and Universities as well as in the Raffles Education Cooperation which is non-governmental entity. There are different kind of educational institutes in world which produce best students for the society. The Raffles Design Institute is playing competitive role in the design field with every aspects. The library is heart of the institute and it is well organized with new technology and has a best attractive place in the premises which offer facilities for the students for conducting their studies well. Objectives of the study are to identify the importance of the library in practical based design education, to examine student’s response and requirements for the library and to explore satisfaction of students about the library
