Item An Examination of the Stimuli of the Stadium Facility Accessibility on Spectator Satisfaction(2nd International Conference on Social Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2014) Jayawardhana, W.M.A.M.; Weerakoon, W.M.R.K.; Jayantha, K.; Karunarathne, K.A.N.M.This particular study was carried out with special reference to the Sugathadasa Outdoor Stadium (SOS), Colombo, Sri Lanka. This study was undertaken by the researchers, focusing on the problem ?why it is difficult to maintain attendance consistently for sport events?? There were two objectives set to be achieved by this study. The main objective was to examine the influence of the accessibility on spectator satisfaction. The specific objective was to identify the degree of factors influenced on the spectator satisfaction. The researchers carried out an extensive literature review to provide a conceptual background of the study and to develop a conceptual model and also to formulate hypotheses for the study. 100 respondents, who attended the Athletic Selection Meet (ASM) in SOS were selected for the survey. Certain conclusions were made from the study after carrying out detailed scientific analysis of data using appropriate statistical tools. The conclusion is that the accessibility is strongly influence on spectator?s satisfaction. Based on the findings of the study, a number of recommendations was made to the sport authorities, researchers and professionals in the field of sport marketing and sport facility management. Implementation of these recommendations will benefit not only Sri Lankan sport, but Sri Lankan economy also.Item Degree of Integration of the Indigenous Managers into Japanese Management Practices of Japanese Transplants in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2002) Jayantha, K.Japanese transplant in Sri Lanka have been in growing for several years, which use Japanese Management Practice to manage those companies. It is also observed that the Japanese Management Practices are adopted by other Sri Lankan organizations as well. In such a context, it is important to test the degree of integration of those practices by Sri Lankans, which is the focus of this research. This research consists of the test result of the degree of integration towards the Japanese Management Practices of 226 Sri Lankan managers who work over 10 Japanese owned organizations. Taking the ten popular Japanese Management practices into consideration tested the degree of integration of said managers. Out of the total number of managers 75% accept the Japanese Management Practices. Their average degree of acceptance is 75%. However, it is important to mention that there is 100% agreement for some of practice mentioned above (QCC method/ 5S concept). Some of the Japanese Management Practices have been rejected (Nominication) by the management personnel in the companies, which were included in the present study.Item Do the Students Evaluate Correctly: A case study, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka(Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2009) Jayantha, K.; Gunarathna, M.; Ramanayaka, N.; Nayanananda, W.Universities are predominantly engaged in two activities: teaching and research. Teaching is defined as dissemination of knowledge and research is defined as generating knowledge. Both activities are equally important. There is lot of criticism from several quarters on the passive role played by the universities in Sri Lanka with regard to teaching and research. The private sector which provides most of job opportunities for the graduates who pass out from university are not satisfied with their quality. The primary objective of the university apart from teaching is to carry out research. But the national universities are not satisfies with their research contribution. There are several criticisms levels of the graduates recently produced by the national universities. The critics’ questioned about the application of skills and the evaluation of skills of the graduates. Others argue that their English proficiency is low and their lack of computer literacy. The criticisms made by these groups are still valid with regard to the graduates in the Art Stream. Today it seems that there is kind of threat or competition to the National Education System (NES). Here is an Alternative Education System (AES) developed by the private sector from primary education to basic degree and postgraduate education. The huge demand and the profitability in the education sector may be strengthened further from such a development. The criticism on national university education may have got some backing support to increase the demand of the private sector opportunities. The criticism against the university education has been taken in to consideration by the interested authorities. In finding solutions one can identify two problems namely lack of proficiency of English and lack of computer literacy. Generally, it can be argued that making graduands acquainted with skills to match the outside demand is the solution for this problem. Universities are not bound to generate a workforce for companies whether they are public or private. Universities make men/women to serve the nation with analytical knowledge. In this research, this category of group is named as conventional School (CS). In this scenario, it is very important to understand clearly the problem at first and then arrive at solutions appropriately since it is tightly connected with the NES. We have to consider whether group one or two or both criticisms are correct. Which group MS or CS has made close solutions to reality? These are the problems discussed in this study. This study argues that to build an ideal graduate the teaching and evaluation process should be reconciled to each other and they should gradually go up to a high level of skills. The Bloom’s taxonomy was used to evaluate the student evaluation process of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Question papers related to the first semester of the academic year 2007/2008 were evaluated. The surveys cover all the departments in the faculty and papers at all levels and course unite were considered. The results proved that the process of evaluation is poor; in some areas the standards of the questions set did not pass the first of second stage of Bloom’s Taxonomy.Item Effect of Distance for Sport Participation of University System in Sri Lanka: With Special Reference to University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka(, 4th International Symposium, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, 2012) Madhushani, A.A.I.; Jayantha, K.; Ubhayachandra, E.G.The title, ?effect of distance for sport participation of university system in Sri Lanka, (with special reference to the University of Kelaniya? describes the sport participation of Kelaniya University and it seems that students? sport participation has been declining in last few years. Hence the focal problem was why such an unpleasant situation has taken place. The study was selected to provide three objectives that were set to achieve by this study. The key objective was to identify the effect of distance for university students sport participation and specific objective was to recognize the relationship between distance and sport participation. The independent variable was distance, and the dependent variable was sport participation. Only the selected influencing factor was considered in this study. Although there are number of research done related to university students? sport participation within the global context, there is a lack of research done so far within the Sri Lankan context and especially within the Sri Lankan university system. The present study addressed this gap. 100 sport participants were selected for the study using Stratified Random Sampling method. As this study is empirical in nature an attempt was made to collect primary data as much as possible. Meanwhile, secondary data were also associated. The statistical calculation such as correlation coefficient, regression and p-value were calculated by using statistical software (SPSS 19.0). there were several findings of this study and based on them number of recommendations have been produced. The results shows that the distance between students? staying (lodging) and the location of playing is negatively correlated with sport participation.Item Factors Affecting people's attitudes towards cricket: with special reference to Kandy Secretariat Division(Jaffna University International Research Conference (JUICE-2012), University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, 2012) Weerakoon, W.M.R.K.; Jayantha, K.; Ubhayachandra, E,G.As the most popular and widely spreader sport in Sri Lanka, it was selected the particular topic titled ?factored affecting people?s attitude towards Cricket: with special reference Kandy Secretariat Division?. At the point of hosting the Sri Lanka team in the final match of widely spread some disappointment among the Cricket spectators and other interested public. The researcher was stimulated by this unpleasant climate and unsolved problem created such on what happened to people?s attitudes towards Cricket. For studying on this problem, present paper was conducted. There were two objectives expected to fulfill by this study namely, i) to understand the people?s attitude towards Cricket after the World Cup (WC) 2011 and ii) to identify the people?s attitude towards Cricket in order to demographic factors such as on age, gender, and level of education. Hence, this study was based on three predictions namely, i) gender makes different attitudes on Cricket H1), ii) there is a negative correlation between attitude towards Cricket and age (H2), and iii) there is a negative correlation between attitude towards Cricket and level of education (H3). At the point of testing these hypotheses, the study was limited to a sample population for the convenience of the study. Kandy Secretariat Division where in located the Pallekele international Cricket ground and one game of WC 2011 was held selected on the study area, purposely. Five other sub divisions selected those were located around the ground, and sample size of each division was selected proportionate to the sub division population. The respondents were chosen by simple random sampling technique with association of divisional registration unit and random number table. The data were collected from the respondents by exploring a questionnaire that was carefully conducted according to the Lickert scale method. A total of 250 questionnaires were distributed among the sample on the basis of quota given to the each sub division, by using the data collected through survey. The three hypotheses were tested using a statistical software. The result shows that very weak negative correlation both age and level of education with attitude towards Cricket. Gender and attitude towards Cricket also shows a very weak negative skiwness. Based on the findings of the study number of recommendations was made to the sport authorities and researches in the field of sport science to improve attitude towards Cricket in the country in future. Resulting from implementation, of given recommendations, the respective benefits will be by Sri Lanka sports, at aggregate level.Item Factors affecting to participating in sports by undergraduates in the University system in Sri Lanka: with special reference to University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka(International Research Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHS 2012), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayawardhanapura, 2012) Madhushani, A.A.I.; Jayantha, K.; Ubhayachandra, E.G.The study describes the poor sport participation of undergraduates in the University of Kelaniya. It seems that students? sport participation has gradually reduced in the last few years. the researcher aimed to achieve three objectives of which key objective was ?to identifying the nature of sport participation by undergraduates in university of Kelaniya? and specific objectives were to recognize the relationship between distance from the residence and the place where sport is located and to recognize the relationship between past experience and the sport participation. Two hypotheses were used in the study: i) the distance negatively influence on sport participation and, ii) past experience positively affects sport participation. The researcher carried out an extensive literature review to provide a conceptual background of the study and to develop a conceptual model. Hypotheses were formulated accordingly. 100 sport participants were selected for the study using Stratified Simple Random sampling method and collected primary data via questionnaires. Meanwhile, secondary data were also associated. A set of findings was made based on the date analysis. Conclusion was made from the study after carrying out detailed scientific analysis of data. The distance shows a -0.422** relationship and past experience shows a 0.208* relationship. Based on the findings, recommendations were made to the relevant authorities and it is expected that these will benefit future researchers and interested parties in the field of study.Item Factors affecting to recreation behavior in upcountry Tamil community in tea estates(International Research Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHS 2012), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayawardhanapura, 2012) Wijethissa, K.G.C.P.; Jayantha, K.; Ubhayachandra, E.G.This study aims to make a deeper analysis of Upcountry Tamil Community (UTC) in tea estates in relation to the factors effecting recreation behavior. the objective is to identify the influence of age and gender (demographic factors) for recreation behavior of UTC in tea estates. Two hypotheses were formulated: i) the age influence on recreation behavior of UTC in tea estates, ii) the gender influence on recreation behavior of UTC in tea estates. The researcher used primary and secondary data for this study. 200 labors were selected for the sample and the researcher used cluster sampling method as the sampling technique in this study. The researcher used questionnaire and interview methods to collect data and hypotheses were tested by calculate correlation and skewness. Based on the finding, the researcher concluded that employees? recreation behavior (individually and together) is negatively correlated with their age and gender. In addition, the researcher made recommendation to tea estates authorities and others in related field. The government should provide open spaces and recreational centers throughout the tea estates. Therefore, the government should take steps to increased their income or released more time for their recreation.Item Impact of Organizational Culture on Employee?s Job Related Attitudes: With Special Reference to NOC and MBGR of Sri Lanka(2nd International Conference on Social Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2014) Jayantha, K.; Weerakoon, W.M.R.K.; Fernando, W.D.C.; Jayawardhana, W.M.A.M.The present study examines the impact of organizational culture on employees job related attitudes with special reference to National Olympic Committee (NOC) and ministry of Botanical Garden and Recreation (MBGR) in Sri Lanka. This study was undertaken by the researchers focusing on the particular problem, why employees motivate differently in different organizations? There were four objectives to be achieved by this study, which included a key objective namely ?to identify the type of NOC and the Ministry of Botanical Garden and Recreation culture that leads to positive work related attitudes on employee, and three specific objectives such as: (i) to examine the existing organizational culture in selected organization, (ii) to measure the employee job related attitudes in organizations concerned, (iii) to recognize the organization structure in NOC and ministry of Botanical Garden and Recreation. The researcher carried out an extensive literature review to provide a conceptual background to the study and to develop a conceptual model and to formulate hypotheses for the study. The study was carried two sports organizations with 50 respondents. Stratified random sampling method was employed to select the sample from each organization. Certain conclusions were made from the study after carrying out detailed scientific analysis of data using appropriate statistical tools. The conclusions were made considering the findings of the study. It was revealed that the dependence of job related attitudes on organizational culture is very weak and therefore negligible. However it became clear that there was an apparent relationship between the organizational cultural types and job related attitudes. Based on the findings of the study, number of recommendations was made to the sport authorities and researchers in the field of sport to improve employee performance in their countries in future. Not only Sri Lankan sport organization, but also Sri Lankan economy will be benefitted through implementation of these recommendations.Item Improvement efficiency and productivity in government institutes: reduction of cycle time of mail delivery system (MDS) of the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. A case study(Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2007) Jayantha, K.Inefficiency and low productivity in government sector organizations have become topics being critically discussed at forums in various level at present and therefore there was a trend during the last two decades to launch initiatives to privatize government organizations for improving its efficiencies. As successive governments have not identifies an alternative solution rather than privatizations. They established the Public Enterprise Reform Commission (PERC), which seeks to sell such government institutes to the private sector instead of looking for managerial solutions to improve the efficiency as well as the productivity of those institutions. The objective of this study was to investigate the possibility of improving efficiency and productivity in government sector organizations by using managerial tools. Consequently, the mail delivery system (MDS) of the University of Kelaniya was identified and a pilot project was launched aiming at reducing the time required to distribute a cycle of letters. It was noted that each office assistant (peon) had to walk a distance of 4 km for mail delivery cycle per day: at the end of the each cycle, all the office assistants in the university have walked a total distance of 216 km per mail delivery cycle. As there was no special time scheduled for mail delivery, the office assistant has to walk from division to division every day and perhaps several times per day. Therefore, in reality, the average distance walked by an office assistant is frequently more than 4 km. In order to understand and evaluate the efficiency of existing MDS of the university and the proposed system the six sigma statistical method was used. Consequently, the yield of the existing MDS and the proposed one were calculated. The based sigma level of the old MDS was at a very low level. With the introduction of the new MDS indicating statistical stability, the time all office assistants spent in delivering mail have been reduced to 45 minutes per cycle: the distance has been reduced to a total of 4 km per cycle and the number of office assistants required has been reduced by 25.Item Influence of past experience on sport participation of university system in Sri Lanka: with special reference to University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka(Jaffna University International Research Conference (JUICE-2012), University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, 2012) Madhushani, A.A.I.; Jayantha, K.; Ubhayachandra, E.G.This paper discusses the influence of past experience on sport participation of university system in Sri Lanka, (with special reference the University of Kelaniya). In making a review of sport participation of undergraduates it was noted that there is a regular decline over past period. Hence, the focal problem was why such an unpleasant situation has taken place. The study attempted to achieve three objectives of which the key objective was to identify the influence of past experience for university students? sport participation and specific objectives were to recognize the degree of sport participation in University of Kelaniya, and to provide better suggestions enabling to set them motivated in this regard. To do this study in well manner the researcher constructed research model based on what hypothesis namely, past experience positively influence on sport participation of undergraduates. According to the research question was formulated that past experience positively correlated with sport participation. Consistence with this hypothesis a research question was also raised. There are so many researches done regarding university students? sport participation in the global context. However, there is a lack of researches done so far in respect of past experience and sport participation. So, then it was noted that there is a research gap to be filled up and that vacuum has been filled up by this study. In this particular case, for the inconvenience of the analysis a sample consist of 100 sport participants were selected having employed the stratified Random Sampling method. The reason behind selection of that sampling technique was facilitated to set the sampling population dispersed stratified. As this study is empirical in nature as far as possible an attempt was made to collect primary data. Meanwhile, secondary data were also associated with a view to collect more data and to make a deeper clarification. For presenting the data specially grafts, tables and percentage values were associated. In the case of analyzing the data correlation and simple regression were applied using statistical software (SPSS 19.0). Both quantitative and qualitative analysis were made under this study. The result shows that past experience of sport positively correlated with sport participation of undergraduates. As, the end of this study, six findings were made. Based on this findings ultimately, recommendations were produced in order to increased and stimulate the sport participation of undergraduates. Accordingly, suggestions for further researches have also been made at the end of the study.Item Kaizen Equilibrium and Organization Behavior: A Conceptual Analysis(Saudi Journal of Business and Management Studies, 2021) Jayantha, K.The Kaizen concept introduced to the world by Imai is a resource that can be used for improvement anywhere. The benefits of this concept are immense, especially for developing countries, as the investment costs considered zero or minimal. Thus, the concept has now spread to the East and the West with many academic studies. However, it is doubtful whether this concept has been used to the fullest as the concept is based on the Japanese socio-economic background. Furthermore, this concept emerges especially in a context where middle management is seen as the driving force. Similarly, a centralised thought pattern can be seen throughout East Asia. The mediation procedure is the way of thinking of Asians. That may be due to their inspiration from Buddhist philosophy from 5 B.C. onwards. This study aims to consider how the Kaizen concept adapts to different organisational structures. The study further explores what needs to be done at the middle management level to maximise the Kaizen concept. However, this study is limited to conceptualisation. Here especially, the triangular organisational structure model and the smooth curve are used for analysis. For in-depth analysis uses positive and negative skewness. This study revealed that the Kaizen concept is satisfied in different ways within tall, flat and symmetrical organisational structures. Accordingly, it became clear that the Kaizen concept in a symmetrical organisational structure would satisfy middle management. It was further demonstrated that the introduction of Kaizen as negative skew and positive skew in high and flat organisational structures, respectively, can satisfy it in middle management. Thus, it is clear that the concept of Kaizen has the potential to be more effective in introducing the organisational structure in particular than in general. However, since this conceptualisation is done more simply, I suggest that further mathematical analysis is appropriate for this.Item Park (Uyana): Conceptualization(Scholars Journal of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, 2021) Jayantha, K.; Ariyawansa, RG.; Kumara, U. AnuraHistorical evidence proves that 'parks' have been used as a reconciliation tool between humans and the environment since prehistoric times. With the emergence of various forms of gardening, the basic meaning of park took different forms. This led to complications of understanding what it means by a park. Thus, this paper aims to realize the exact definition of Uyana, which is the Sinhala language term for park how the park is used as a term. The authors used Hela Nirukthi Shasthraya or Hela Niyyukthastra as the method to understand the basic definition of park. We used the equation A = 100/An, B = A/Bn, C = B/Cn, D = C/Dn where A = Base word, B = Level 2, C = Level 3, D = Level 4 and n = number of pure synonyms, to measure definition power of park. We further investigated how many terms are used synonymously with park, and which were gradually distancing away from the basic meaning of park. Further investigations revealed that the identified meanings given to park were indicating a weak power in terms of the power of those definitions. In addition, the term taxonomy of the term park illustrates that the meaning of the park has differentiated with the global development from its original/ basic meaning.Item People’s attitudes towards Sri Lankan cricket(University of Sri Jayawardhanapura, 2012) Weerakoon, W.M.R.K.; Jayawardhana, W.M.A.M.; Jayantha, K.; Ubhayachandra, E.G.This paper has two objectives: i) to identify the degree of people’s attitude about the Sri Lanka Cricket ii) to examine the perception of the people about Sri Lankan Cricket after 2011World Cup (WC). Hence, this study was based on three predictions namely; i) there is a negative correlation between beliefs and attitudes towards Cricket (H1), ii) there is a negative correlation between loyalty and attitudes towards Cricket (H2), iii) there is a negative correlation between preference and attitude towards Cricket (H3). At the point of testing these hypotheses, the study was limited to a sample population for the convenience of the study. Kandy Sectarian Division, where the Pallekele international Cricket Stadium is located and one game of WC 2011 was held. Five other sub divisions were selected: those located around the ground, and sample size of each division was selected proportionate to the sub division population. Then despondences were from simple random sampling technique with association of divisional sectarian unit and random numbered table. The data were collected from the despondence by exploring a questionnaire that was carefully conducted according to the Lickert scaled method. 117 questionnaires were distributed among the sample on the basis of quota given to each sub division. The three hypotheses were tested using SPSS version 19.0. For validity and reliability of questionnaires Conbach’s Alpha (0.73) was also used. The results show that negative correlation between belief and attitudes towards Cricket (r = -4.56*). Loyalty and attitudes towards Cricket also shows a negative (r = -5.78*). Preference and attitudes towards Cricket also shows a negative (r = -4.65*). Based on the findings of the study number of recommendations were made to the sport authorities and researchers in the field of sport to improve attitudes about Cricket in the country in future. Resulting from implementation of given recommendations, the respective benefits will be yielded by Sri Lankan sports, at aggregate level.Item Pilikuththuwa Cave Forest: A Case Study in the Use of the Water and Land Recreation Opportunity Spectrum (WALROS) Inventorying Framework in a Near Urban Forest(International Journal of Social Sciences and Entrepreneurship, 2014) Peiris, D.L.I.H.K.; Jayantha, K.The Recreation Opportunity Spectrum (ROS) that considers the diversity of recreation experience (Brown 1978, Buist 1982, Clark 1979, Driver 1978) will help to improve the satisfaction of recreationists. This case study is a report of clarifying the present situation of the Pilikuththuwa Cave Forest (PCF) using the WALROS approach as an attempt to identify diversified recreation destination surrounding to capital of Sri Lanka. The study was conducted leading to key objective and three specific objectives respectively, to develop the map of the current WALROS with regard to PCF, to identify the existing recreation activities in PCF, to pick out recreation experiences that can be gained by PCF recreationists, and to categorize WALROS classes within the PCF. As the nature of the research the qualitative research approach was associated. Land area that has geographically unique phenomena was the research area which was consisted of 483830.108m2. The land was systematically examined to understand the WALROS classes by dividing it into eleven polygons with the association of well-trained three research assistants on WALROS criterion. Current recreation users, area residents, head monk of the temple belonging to the area, officials of archaeological department and representatives of interest groups were interviewed other than the observations to understand the existing recreation activities. 11-point WALROS inventory scale was used in scaling the data and GIS software used to present and analysis the data. Out of six WALROS classes, four classes and ten existing recreation activities were identified in PCF. Nine, seven and eight activities were identified respectively in Rural Developed, Rural Natural and in Semi-primitive and Primitive areas. In this study the concept of WALROS was used only as a mapping tool. Based on the findings of the study it can conclude that the PCF area provides diversified recreational experiences via rural developed to primitive settings.Item Providing for a diverse range of outdoor recreation opportunities: a WALROS approach(2nd International Conference on Social Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2014) Peiris, D.L.I.H.K.; Jayantha, K.The Recreation Opportunity Spectrum (ROS) that encompases the diversity of recreation experience will help improve the satisfaction of recreationists. This study clarifies the present situation of the Pilikuththuwa cave mountain using the Water and Land Recreation Opprtunity Spectrum (WALROS) approach as an attempt to identify the diversified recreation destinations around the capital of Sri Lanka. The study has a key objective and three specific objectives, namely, to develop the map of the current Water and Land Recreation Opportunity Spectrum with regard to Pilikuthtuwa cave forest (PCF) to identify the existing recreation activities in the area and to pick out recreation experiences that can be gained by Pilikuthtuwa cave forest recreationists and to categorize Recreation Opportunity Classes within the area. The study employs qualitative research approach. Land area that has geographically unique phenomena was considered as a research unit and eleven such units were selected within the study area of 483830.108 m2 in extent. Those eleven units were systematically examined to understand the WALROS classes with the association of well-trained five research assistants on WALROS criteria. Current recreation users, area residents, chief monk of the temple in the area, officials of archaeological department and representatives of interest groups, were interviewed. In additions observations were made to understand the existing recreation activities. 11-point WALROS inventory scale was used in scaling the data and mainly GPS software was used to present and analysis the data. Out of six WALROS classes, four classes and ten existing recreation activities was identified spread over those classes. Nine, seven and eight activities were identified respectively in Rural Developed, Rural Natural and in Semi-primitive and Primitive areas. In this study the concept of WALROS was used only as a mapping tool. Based on the findings of the study it could be concluded that the Pilikuththuwa cave mountain area provides diversified recreational experiences ranging from rural developed to primitive settings.Item Ranking Cricket Players According to Their Efficiency of Performances: A Criterion Formulation for a Minimum Error Team Selection(Research Centre for Social Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Ramanaka, A.R.N.D.; Bandara, K.A.W.P.; Wehigaldeniya, W.G.D.S.; Oshani, P.A.L.; Dilshani, P.Y.H.; Jayantha, K.This research suggests a new criterion for cricket team selection using data envelopment analysis (DEA) with the objective of selecting a team which has a minimum error in team selection. It proposes a DEA formulation for evaluation of cricket players in different capabilities and their efficiencies of performance using multiple outputs. For instances, batting, bowling all rounding, wicket keeping, and fielding capabilities. This evaluation determines efficient and inefficient cricket players and ranks them on the basic of DEA scores. The ranking can be used to choose the required number of players for a cricket team in each cricketing capability. A real data set which belongs to Sri Lankan Cricket team during ICC world cup 2015 is associated with the data analysis process. Cricket players having various capabilities is used to choose the best cricket team. For this purpose, the secondary data were derived from “ESPN” cricinfo web site (Which is reputed web site for international cricket data). The proposed method has the advantage of considering multiple factors related to the performance of players in multiple capabilities and aggregates their scores using a DEA model in linear programming frame work. This DEA aggregation gives the scores of players objectively instead of using subjective computations. The findings of this study suggest that DEA has the potential to select players to the Cricket team fairly. There for these findings cane be used to player’s selection in local and national cricket team selection as objective selection criteria.Item Recreation Patterns of Upcountry Estate Tamil Community(Research Symposium 2010 - Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2010) Wijethissa, K.G.C.P.; Jayantha, K.The upcountry Estate Tamil Community (ETC) can be considered as a special segmentation of the Sri Lankan community considering geographical, social, cultural, professional factors and etc. This study has ascertained actual recreational patterns of this special segmentation of the community. By observing and studying the community it was predicted that they have different recreation patterns characterized by their own. Cluster sample method was used to select the sample and workers were selected for the sample from three clusters. Data collected via structured interviews as most were illiterate of the community. This study was limited to tea pluckers (Gathering people) and labourers of the surveying area. The result proved that the people were tightly bound to a daily routine, living a monotonous life with few expectations and having recreation patterns shaped by the geographical and their occupational patterns. The survey data led to the conclusions that the ETC was confined their estate environment and do not wish to have any contact with outside their community. As such, recreation programs and activities suitable for their locality have to be introduced.Item Results Oriented Vs. Process Oriented(University of Kelaniya, 2008) Jayantha, K.As the same as the people in the Asian region Sri Lankan in culture are basically group oriented as well as process oriented, and enough supportive evidence can be found throughout the written Sri Lankan history. the year 1505 which the year began to colonization Sri Lanka can be defined as the turning point of cultural values and belief of Sri Lanka nation. Until colonization it was a group oriented and a process oriented nation. With the colonization it was transplanted western culture that was lead to the individualism and result oriented society. But the Buddhism and the agricultural society which created the base of the Sri Lankan culture is still exist, and individualism and result oriented pattern of thinking also there in action. When they are doing something normally Sri Lankan say doing it by hook or by crook. The real Sinhala term in this statement is Kokken hor Kekken. Sometimes achieving targets they are saying doing it by good way or in bad way. The Sinhala term is Honding hor Naraking. It is seem to be gap between Sri Lankan real culture which is lead to groupanism and process oriented and organizational culture which is lead to individualism and result oriented. This cultural disparity direct to less performance of organizations. We need to have management culture goes with Sri Lankan culture in order to get the maximum performance of an organization. The aim of this study was to identify and develop a Sri Lankan management pattern based on management tools that are practicing in the Asian region. For this purpose, developed varies types processes using numbers of management tools like 5S, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, Lean, Zero Defects, Six Sigma, Visual Management, IT technology and these processes were tested for several years. these processes finally not only given the targeted results but also could reduce or eliminate some wastes, form a happy workforce and systematic working culture.Item Right View on Sustainability(Jayantha K.; Ariyawansa R.G.; Kumara U. Anura (2022), Right View on Sustainability, Volume 03, Issue 02, Department of Social Statistics, Faculty of Social Sciences University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka, Faculty of Graduate Studies - University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. 33-54., 2022) Jayantha, K.; Ariyawansa, R.G.; Kumara, U. Anura; This paper explores the fundamental concept of sustainability and its relationship to right vision.
