Item An Analytical Study on the Library Acquisition Policy of Public Libraries: Study based on the Public Libraries in Kegalle District(3rd International Conference on Library and Information Management, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Kumara, H.U.C.S.All Libraries should follow library policies for success services and activities. Public library proved user’s present needs and future needs and also parent body needs. Therefore public library should follow acquisitions policy success their goals and objectives. This research main objective to study library acquisition policies followed by Public Libraries in Kegalle. The secondary objective was analysing the library acquisition policy if enacted. Survey methodology was used in the research in which both qualitative and quantitative data were gathered. The research sample consists of 5 Public Libraries in Kegalle District. They were situated at Kegalle, Mawanella, Rambukkana, and Ruwanwella Pradeshiya Sabhas. The study observed a 100% absence of a written library acquisition policy in researched libraries. The study observed a 100% absence of a policy in activities. Conclusions of study the libraries do not follow a library acquisitions policy. There is no written library acquisitions policy as well. A written library acquisitions policy has to be introduced to each library to be set as a guideline to standardize the activities done in the librariesItem The awareness of disaster management among the library staff of university libraries: A case study based on the staff of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Library in Sri Lanka(Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2023) Kumara, H.U.C.S.A disaster is an unpredicted incident that puts every resource in any institution, including libraries, at risk. At present the library is fully automated and provides printed resources, e-resources, etc. to fulfill the information needs of users. The objective of the study is to explore the awareness of disaster management among the library staff. The study used the descriptive survey research method. The sample size was 62, and the population was the University of Sri Jayewardenepura library staff. Sixty-two copies of the questionnaire were disseminated, and 56 (90.32%) of the completed copies were received. The study analyzed all 56 responses. The interviews were semistructured and conducted using the purposive sample technique. Out of the 56 respondents, only 6 were selected for the interview based on the purposive sampling method. The study concludes that the library staff members are very aware of the disasters 49 (87.50%) and damage 40 (71.43%) that occurred due to the disasters in the library. The library staff members lack awareness of disaster management in the library 38 (67.86%). It is further revealed that the library staff members do not know how to use library disaster management equipment in disaster situations. The study recommended that the library organize awareness programs on disaster management for the library staff. The study also suggested that the library staff should be trained on how to use library disaster management equipment and emergency response through the appropriate disaster management courses.Item Identification of Obstacles in Implementing the Inter-Library Cooperation among the Sri Lankan University Libraries: A Case Study.(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya,Sri Lanka., 2017) Kumara, H.U.C.S.Library is place which information, human resource, funds, space, library materials, tools, techniques etc. are necessary for the provision of its services to communities. However, owing to the scarcity of such resources, libraries are compelled to engage with inter library cooperation activities in developed, developing and under-developed countries. Therefore, inter library cooperation has become a universal phenomenon and the principal objective of this paper is to investigate the obstacles faced by the university libraries in inter-library cooperation activity. The survey method was applied for achieving the aims of this research. Primary data collected using questionnaires and interviews. According to the study, three libraries of universities used as a sample. There are, University of Peradeniya, University of Colombo, and University of Kelaniya. Here population categorized as in to two parts. As first part is to choose staff crew in the main libraries of Peradeniya, Colombo and Kelaniya universities. As second part is 75 final year students who are studying in the Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Management and Faculty of Science covering of all three universities. The data which acquired by questionnaires analyzed using Ms Excel software. The tables, charts and the bar charts presented data. As conclusions, it can be identified there are lot of obstacles such as Each and every university acts as separate independent body. All the university libraries, should not follow a unique procedure. Inter library cooperation is not much efficient and successful. No proper leadership for university libraries. Influence of security principles, followed by librarians. Lack of specialists, who have specific knowledge on new technology in this field. Minimum financial supports for this field. Prevailing in the process of the inter library cooperation.Item Review of Google Scholar-based studies on the use of social media for public relations in libraries from 2013 to 2022(Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2023) Gunarathna, D.G.R.L.; Kumara, H.U.C.S.; Karunarathna, W.N.P.M.N.N.A library is a collection of informational resources and related materials that are available to a specific community for borrowing or reference. Public relations (PR) is a collection of tactics and methods for managing how information about a person or company is disseminated to the general public, particularly the media. Social media platforms facilitate the dissemination of information, ideas, messages, and other types of content. Using social media platforms offers libraries of all types a promising opportunity to strengthen their public relations efforts. The study's objectives are as follows: To examine the annual growth of scholarly papers on the use of social media for public relations in library settings, to explore the many forms of publications that were used to convey data, to learn about the various types of libraries featured in social media for public relations publications, and to investigate the distribution of publications based on authorship. The study uses bibliometric analysis as its methodology to evaluate a large volume of scientific data. From 2012 until 2022, the study period lasted eleven years. Only scholarly articles written in English were considered for study. A total of 546 research publications were obtained, with 492 articles chosen. The survey found that most of publications 59 (12%) were published in 2021, and that a considerable majority of the publications were written by a single person 241 (49%). This study suggests that future research investigate the methods and behaviors used to develop public relations (PR) utilizing social media.
