    Coping with Workplace Stress by the Sri Lankan LGBTQ+ Community

    LGBTQ+ employees in Sri Lanka face workplace discrimination, as organizations lack adequate policies and practices to protect them from marginalization and vulnerability. Thus LGBTQ+ employees have to work under pressure and it affects their job satisfaction and performance. Sri Lankan LGBTQ+ studies are lacking due to challenges in finding respondents, overcoming social and cultural barriers, and gaining societal support. This study investigates workplace discrimination against LGBTQ+ employees in Sri Lanka, focusing on their feelings and perceptions. It also examines coping strategies for overcoming job stress and the best coping mechanisms for these employees. The research explores came out LGBTQ+ employees' experiences in Sri Lanka and potential solutions to workplace discrimination through a qualitative approach, interviewing eight respondents who experienced discrimination. The study findings reviled that LGBTQ+ employees are discriminated against in the workplace through social exclusion, sexual harassment, and hostile work settings. The research explored nine coping strategies practiced by the Sri Lankan LHBTQ+ employees and highlighted the four best strategies that were successful in Sri Lankan context. The studies’ findings provide significant insights for the organization's policymakers related to human resource management and scholars.

    The Empirical study on Potentials to Developing Rail Tourism in Sri Lanka - Evidence from Colombo – Badulla Railway Route

    Rail tourism is a niche tourism segment and activities of persons traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for engage with Rail Tourism activities include short train rides, railroad park observations, museum visitations, and special events, such as rail fairs, festivals and days. Rail tourism provides potential economic benefits as a means of business and heritage identity (Philip, case study of Rail Tourism, 2012). Current situation of tourism in Sri Lanka is not much focused on rail tourism sector and there were no statistical data or annual reports with responsible authority to indicate on international tourists who are travel using train. But according to the Ministry of Transport “Sri Lankan tourism industry is booming and can achieve higher revenue through the promotion of railroad tourism, if developed and market appropriately” (Sri Lanka by rail Article, 2012).

    Qualitative Analysis of International Backpacker Tourists’ Perception towards Local Food Restaurants in Ella, Sri Lanka

    This study investigates the perception of backpacker tourists toward local food restaurants located in Ella, Sri Lanka. In-depth interviews with fifty international backpacker tourists who visited Ella were conducted and thematic analysis was employed to analyses the data. 98% of the backpackers stated that they are satisfied with Sri Lankan food. As per the backpackers interviewed, price, nutrient value and food safety are the most influencing factors that affect the decision of selecting a Sri Lankan restaurant. Backpacker tourists stated that they are also concerned about the information in menu and product knowledge of food servers. The physical environment of the restaurant attracts backpacker tourists to local restaurants. Keeping traditional outlook and simple features of restaurants give unique experience to travelers and this in turn generate opportunities for the concept of gastronomy tourism concept. Rice with curries, Hoppers, Roties and Dosai are the more popular Sri Lankan food among backpacker tourists. Unique taste, textures, simple attractive garnishing and eco-friendly packing are the reasons that backpackers are attracted to Sri Lankan food. Price gaps of food create disadvantages to local food restaurants in Ella. With proper marketing approaches, Sri Lankan restaurants can be promoted among international travelers. Nevertheless, government contribution to pricing is necessary to control the price gap.
