A. S. M.; Wijayanayake, A. N.; Peter, SurenBillions of people use social networks, and they play a significant role in people's lifestyles in the current world. At the same time, due to globalization and other factors, the use of these social platforms is expanding daily, and a variety of activities take place inside these platforms. These networks are centralized, allowing social network-owned companies to track and observe the activities of their users. Therefore, this has been challenged to the privacy of the data of users. Also, these companies tend to sell them to third parties keeping huge profits without users' permission. Since data is the most valuable asset in today's and tomorrow's world, many have pointed out this issue. Even though decentralized, community-driven applications have come to play as a solution to this problem, there is still no successful application that competes with centralized social network platforms. Therefore, this study attempted to develop a decentralized social network architecture with the basic functionalities of a social media platform to assure the privacy of the users' data.Item Industry 4.0 Implementation in Sri Lankan Manufacturing Firms: A Lean Perspective(Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka, 2023) Bandara, Lahiru; Withanaarachchi, Amila; Peter, SurenManufacturing industries require the highest quality and efficiency throughout their value chain, to compete with countries having a labor cost advantage. Today, manufacturing firms are in a fast- phased run to automate their processes and increase value chain integration through advanced technologies. Industry 4.0 has gained traction within this community, where its components like IoT, Big data, and Cloud computing are being used by manufacturing firms to optimize and increase the efficiency of their workplaces. Obtaining the proper outcomes from these advanced technologies has been an issue for most of its users. Very few studies were found in the literature, that propose ways to mitigate the issues faced by these companies in their Industry 4.0 journey. Lean concepts are a popular and proven methodology used by firms worldwide to decrease the complexity and increase the productivity of their processes. Based on a systematic literature review, the study identifies the current knowledge on mitigating the barriers faced by manufacturing firms in Industry 4.0 implementations. To address the knowledge gap identified in the literature review, the study proposes and statistically tests a framework, on how the manufacturing environment can be improved to obtain the expected outcomes of Industry 4.0 implementations, through a lean theoretical lens. Thus, the stakeholders of the company can contribute towards successful implementations of Industry 4.0 while organizational processes are being standardized and optimized to integrate these advanced technological shifts.Item Profiling purchasing behavior of Generation Z(Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2020) Kahawandala, Nadeesha; Peter, Suren; Niwunhella, HiruniGeneration Z has emerged as one of the most mystifying consumers as they are tech-savvy, digitally connected and educated users of technologies in the marketplace. These digital natives are predicted to account for around 40% of all consumer shopping by 2020. Their cognitive power and social media networking have made them the market mavens who possess a wide range of information and consumer knowledge about many dimensions of the markets. To be the leader in the marketplace where so many options are available due to the free trade economy, marketers have to escalate their knowhow about their customers if they want to capture the attention of this segment of the market. The chief objective of the study is to find the purchasing habits of Generation Z, specifically from the angle of social influence and technology. A sample of 42 respondents was approached for a survey using a structured questionnaire. The results of this initial study indicate that Generation Z shoppers are coming up with unprecedented shopping habits and preferences. Using cross-tabulation analysis, results showed that some of the most classical influential factors such as product features, price consciousness and family recommendations have a significant effect on the purchasing habits of this generation. However, the results indicate the influence of computer literacy, peer and social influence and social media identity on the purchasing decision of Generation Z. The results of this study can be utilized to assist in predicting potential consumer adoption behavior and in designing favourable shopping environments that are compatible with these specific consumer traits.
