Item The Correspondence between Service Quality Dimensions and Customer Perception during COVID 19 outbreak - An Analysis Across Public and Private Sector Banks in India and Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2020) Kurian, S.; Ramanathan, H. N.; De Alwis, C.; De Alwis, A. H. M.; Thomas, B. A.The Novel Corona virus (COVID19) has forced a slow down across the global economy, and nations have come to a standstill due to the complete lockdown enforced by governments in most parts of the world. The banks may help to slow down the spread of the virus by rethinking of ways to meet the customers’ needs in the time of crisis through remote as well as existing channels. The purpose of the paper is to map the customer perception on various service quality dimensions viz., tangibles, reliability, assurance, responsiveness and empathy of the private as well as the public sector banks across India and Sri Lanka during the COVID19 pandemic. The respondents were interviewed in person and also contacted through Google forms to collect the data for the study. The results indicate that customers perceived the services offered by public sector banks to be distinctly different from those offered by private sector banks. This was true for both India and Sri Lanka. The study reiterates the need for these banks to closely monitor the services offered to customers in order to continue enjoying the customer loyalties as well as benefits of competitive positioning of their financial services.Item Reflections on Various Investment Avenues in India: An Empirical Investigation with a Long-Term Perspective.(8th International Conference on Business & Information ICBI – 2017, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Joseph, B.; Ramanathan, H. N.; Chacko, P. S.; Abraham, S.Since the inception of the New Economic Policy in 1991, Indian investors have accessibility to a variety of investment avenues which suit their risk tolerance. Traditionally, the people of India have an affinity to low-risk investment avenues. Indian investors prefer gold as an attractive investment option due to its positive relationship with the uncertainty in inflation. The present study makes an attempt to identify the best individual investment options. The study is focusing on three investment assets – Gold, Government Bonds and Bank Fixed Deposits. The economic reforms in India during 1991 helped the researcher to frame the foundation for the study. The study winds up with an interesting conclusion that even if gold is considered as an attractive and safest investment asset, in reality, it has higher risk and lower return when compared to other investment avenues like bonds and bank fixed deposits.Item Spirituality: A Boon for Organizational Performance.(8th International Conference on Business & Information ICBI – 2017, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Mathew, G. C.; Padmasiri, M. K. D.; Ramanathan, H. N.; Chacko, P. S.Teachers are sophisticated users of social media. Although the faculty personal use of social media has shown ever-increasing trend the professional use of social media has lagged somewhat behind. A majority of faculty now uses social media in a professional context (including all aspects of their profession outside of teaching). The number of teachers who use social media in the classroom still does not represent a majority. They refer to different sites to match their varying personal, professional, and teaching needs. In general, they see considerable potential in the application of social media and technology to their teaching, but not without a number of serious barriers. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence and facilitating conditions of acceptance of social media in teaching and learning activities and the barriers that inhibit the minds of the management faculty in the use of it. The results indicate a positive inclination among teachers towards the use of social media for teaching-learning purposes with each of the indicator variables, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence and facilitating conditions measuring higher than the benchmark. The dominant factor which emerged as a barrier to the usage of social media by the teachers was the lack of integration of social media with the learning management system.Item The Utilitarian Perception of Gold by Women - A Perception Mapping of Women in the Pre and Post Globalization Era.(8th International Conference on Business & Information ICBI – 2017, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Pathy, G. S.; Ramanathan, H. N.Gold has always been one among the most valued assets since time immemorial. There are very few studies in the field of management which has attempted to identify the reasons for gold purchase or gold buyer behavior. Studies from the field of anthropology have proved that among the most important reasons for the demand for gold jewelry in India is culture. Kerala is considered as the epicenter of Gold consumption in India. India saw major economic transformations during the 1990s when the then Govt. decided to open up the economy through the economic reforms. Globalization can have far-reaching impact on culture. This change in culture can have an impact on the perception towards gold among the younger generations, particularly those who have grown up after the reforms in India. In this context the purpose of the present study was to identify the difference in perception towards utilitarian factors of gold among two generations of customers, in Kerala using perceptual mapping technique. Multi-dimensional scaling was used to map the perception towards utilitarian values associated with gold ornaments. The perception of the population born after 1976 and before 1976 was plotted separately: this was done to identify the change in perception. The results of the mapping indicate that there are changes in the way both the generations perceive utilitarian values of gold. Younger generations are more materialistic in their approach, while the previous generation perceived it as a thing of value. The study throws open the possibility to investigate the difference in perception of customers based on the other dimensions of gold demand as hedonic and symbolic values.
