Item The Association of Transformational Leadership with Employee Empowerment: A Study among IT Professionals(International Conference on Business and Information (ICBI – 2019), [Human Resource Management], Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka, 2019) Mathew, G.C.; Ramanathan, H.N.; Athira, L.Organizations in the 21st century are in the process of identifying different ways and means to develop and maintain leadership in the domain they work. By influencing the attitude and behavior of employees, as well as motivating them to contribute more, leaders can play a pivotal role in the achievement of organizational goals. Empowerment of employees gives them an extent of autonomy as well as decision making capacity to the employees at lower level. Inadequate empowerment of employees may lead various consequences like turnover of employees, lack of productivity among employees, decreased contribution; absence of updating knowledge as well as techniques, lack of development and growth, excessive wastage and creation of non-qualitative products and services. Organizational decision makers are more or less myopic about this. Moreover, not much attention has been paid to identify whether and how leadership influences employee empowerment. This study will help the organizational executives to know the role of transformational leadership style on employee empowerment. Descriptive research was carried out adopting a 7-point scale structured questionnaire to collect primary data. Regression analysis was used, and it is found that transformational leadership is positively associated with employee’s feeling of control; in other words, managerial empowerment.Item Determining the Relative Significance of Life style Factors on Predicting Social Capital: A Study Using Multilayer Perceptron(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2021) Ramanathan, H.N.Economic development ushered in rapid urbanization across the globe. These islands include Vypin, Bolgatty, Vallarpadam and Thanthonni Thuruthu. A structured interview schedule was used for collecting data through personal interview method. The primary data was analyzed with the help of SPSS. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) technique was used to derive the results. It possesses utilitarian, hedonic as well as symbolic qualities. This has ensured that India regularly accounts for almost 25% of the total gold imports in the world. The study is an attempt to identify the impact of cultural dynamics on gold store (Jewelry) selection behavior. The population was classified into pre and post-liberalization generation by dividing into those born before 1976 and after 1976. This was based on average marriage age for females. Though the legal age for marriage for females in India is 18, actual average marriage age for females in India is 20 to 22. The generation born in 1976 would turn 20 by 1996, meaning that the marriage of women belonging to this generation would have happened well after the fall outs of globalization would have started to impact the economy. In order to reduce the impact of external factors on the result samples were chosen from the same socio-economic background i.e. one sample belonging to each of the generations were selected from the same family. A snowballing sampling methodology was adopted. The data was collected using a structured questionnaire. The store selection variables considered under the study were broadly classified into internal and external. Internal includes statements as I buy gold from the same store, I have a list of stores that I trust I choose from among them based on the situation and I take a decision based on opinions of friends and family. The external factors considered were I take a decision based on the attractiveness of advertisements, I take a decision based on promotion and offers. The data was collected from a total of 105 families (210 respondents). The study brought out that cultural dynamics has an influence on store choice behavior. The study couldn’t find any difference between the different attributes contributing to store selection among the pre-liberalization generation. While among the post-liberalization generation though there are differences. The study concludes by stating that cultural dynamics have an impact on store choice behavior. It also opens up a research gap, as the influence of cultural dynamics on other processes of consumer behavior can be probed into as well.Item Impact of Sex Roles on Brand Gender Contamination of Purchase of Decision-Making: Case in Sri Lanka(Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, 2019, 2019) De Alwis, A.C.; Ramanathan, H.N.Current study attempts to examine the relationship between internal environmental factors and the level of adoption HRIS. The Indian cab chartering market’s proceeds is extrapolated to proliferate at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 35% and is likely to be valued around Rupees 800 billon in another two years. The car rental business has emerged as one the fastest growing business. Unreliable local (public) taxi attributed with arrogant behavior of drivers, exploitation and unfair rates are some of the major problems encountered by the common public in these days. Emergence of online taxi services resulted in a shift in demand from local taxi services to online taxi services. Print media as well as visual media reported that there are many reasons behind this shift and one of the important factors that they identified is the attitude and behavior pattern of taxi drivers. The main objective of this paper is to explore whether there is difference in the prosocial behavior pattern of online taxi drivers and local taxi drivers. Societies require a great level of cooperation and accommodative nature for the survival. This study adopted a descriptive research and used Mann-Whitney U, non-parametric test. The result of this study indicates that, there is a significant difference in the pro-social behavior pattern among Online and Local Taxi Drivers. The behavior of helping and caring others can be termed as pro-social behavior. It is observed that the helping natures of human beings are not occurring in an unrelated way, but it occurs because of the symptomatic relationship of various factors. As far as teachers are concerned, technology enabled teaching environment can positively reinforce their teaching methodology. This study assesses the technology perception among the teachers of government and aided schools in Kerala by examining the availability of ICT aides and teachers’ current usage of ICT in the teaching-learning processes, and also closely examining the variation of teacher perception with changing demographic dimensions like age, gender, qualification, training as well as receipt of reward for ICT use. Though research studies have been done in evaluating the effectiveness of Information and Communications Technology-enabled education in several parts of the world, minimal studies have been conducted with regard to Kerala, India. In the light of IT @ School project, an initiative by the Government of Kerala, it is highly relevant to do this study for evaluating the teacher’s views on ICT integration in curriculum delivery. A conclusive research design was used to analyze the teacher perception on Information and Communications Technology enabled education.
