Item How to sight the Holy Grail of Development: Two Development Tales of Sri Lanka and Malaysia(Department of Economics, University of Kelaniya, 2016) Priyantha, R.; Dickwella, R.; Samarakoon, A.The grammar of development always relates to the question words of who, what, and how. Contemporary uni-polar world order has paid more attention on the ways of developing all countries equally. The United Nations (UN), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the Work Bank have become the entrepreneurs of the international development project that has focused on establishment of a universal development system. However, the current development discourse is still in a struggle to conceptualize and map out the development policies to accomplish development ends. The waves of development discourse emphasis the changing pattern of development and reduce rich-poor gap. Bridging the gap of rich and poor is a dilemma as of poor understanding of root causes of underdeveloped. The objective of this article is to understand richpoor gap and the role of internal and external structure to exterminate this gap. Sri Lanka and Malaysia are the selected case studies of the present study. The case studies are to understand the lessons learnt of development. One of the key findings of this study is that the absence of consensus on development and development alienation are direct causes to fail the mega level development policies that has caused countries to stagnate in the same level of poverty. The interests of entrepreneurs of development project on capital accumulation is another crucial factor of widened gap between rich and the poor. Bad governance, corruption, political instability, popular politics and consumer politics, connectivity of global capital to local elites and economic policies to maintain the industrial reserved army have further deteriorated balance development both at national and international levels.Item Socio-Psychological Effect of Abnormal Sexual Behaviours(University of Kelaniya, 2012) de Silva, D.D.R.; Siriwardene, P.P.G.C.; Samarakoon, A.The term "Sex'' is not openly discussed in Sri Lankan culture due to social values, ethics, social norms etc. Society tends to hide some phenomena like puberty and its related biological process with great fear or decorum. Keeping this phenomenon out of society implies putting sex, its act and implication especially when wrongly indulged under the carpet, (keeping it out of reach from society). After the 1990s, studies have shown that social issues such as abnormal sexual behaviours were seen or reported at an unprecedented level. Within a short period, from 2006-2011, the rate and pace of increased abnormal sexual behaviours and their depressing effect on victims is on the rise. The research problem of this study is to analyze the socio-psychological impact of abnormal sexual behaviours, and to explain how it occurs, and its impact on the victims. The objective of this study is therefore, to identify the socio-psychological impact of abnormal sexual behaviours. This study was done with the selection of 05 rural and urban centers which are affiliated to public hospitals of Sri Lanka, where 30 reported cases were obtained and used as secondary data. It was found that socio-psychological impact of abnormal sexual behaviours was very significant. We are in dire need to have a open dialogue on sexual culture in Sri Lanka in pursuance of reduced abnormal sexual behaviours.Item A Study of the Potentiality in the Usage of Docudrama for Development Communication in Sri Lanka(University of Kelaniya, 2007) Samarakoon, A.; Jinadasa, M.P.K.A Docudrama is a type of drama that combines elements of documentary and drama. Docu-drama, drama- documentary, drama-doc or docu- fiction are some other names in introducing this Genre. It may entirely consist actors performing recreations of documented events, or may combine that with contemporaneous footage of the events themselves. Docudrama enriched with development communication characteristics such as a basic message, Literacy, Health, Social Change, Persuasion, A wareness .... etc. This Genre has the potential to change human attitudes and behavior with a message through the dramatic structure. Some docudramas in Sri Lanka in the resent past achieved this goal. Each of them target a special development message, either Health or Social modernization. Docudrama Message Producer Allalaga Walauwa Leprosy Dharmasena Pathiraja Maya Mandira Phobia Dharmasena Pathiraja Wannihamilage Kathandaraya social change Dharmasena Pathiraja Dolosmahe Gangawa social change Thissa Abesekara Iduru Dora AIDS Wasantha Obesekara Charulatha Epilepsy Wijayal_)ha_l21lashree Docudrama could be used for development programmes with a great deal of productivity yet the problem faced by Sri Lanka is that the usage of docudrama for this purpose at present is at its lowest. Though we can see some productions, those have not been used effectively for the purpose of development communication. Our major intention is to provide a thorough background by introducing the potential in this genre for the development sector in both Government and private sectors.Item Use of the theatre games to teach Participatory Video (PV) successfully(University of Kelaniya, 2008) Mantillake, S.; Samarakoon, A.Item ජනප්රිය ඉන්දියානු සිනමාවේ නිරූපිත නව දේශපාලන සිනමා ලක්ෂණ රංග් දේ බසන්ති චිත්රපටය ඇසුරෙන් කෙරෙන අන්තර්ගත විශ්ලේෂණයකි(University of Kelaniya, 2006) Nishshanka, C.; Samarakoon, A.
