Then data were collected from 60 field employees through a self-administered questionnaire, which was developed on five point Likert scale. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 was used to analyze the collected data. Descriptive statistics, correlation coefficient and simple regression analysis aided in the analysis of data. Findings suggested that there was a significant weak positive relationship between health and safety practices and job satisfaction (R = 0.299); and the regression analysis revealed (R2 = 0.089) that health and safety practices could explain the variation of 8.9% of job satisfaction. The leadership style is one of the determinants which can influence the work engagement level of the follower. Therefore, this study examines the effect of transformational leadership on follower work engagement in the manufacturing industry. Transformational leadership is the inspirational leadership aimed at motivating subordinates to achieve organizational goals while at the same time emphasizing the importance of subordinate wellbeing and need for fulfillment. Transformational leadership was measured through idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration of the leader toward the follower. Further, the study examines whether the relationship between transformational leadership and follower work engagement is moderated by follower characteristics. Data were collected from 342 followers in the manufacturing industry in Sri Lanka using a selfadministered questionnaire. Transformational leadership was assessed using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (Form 5X) while the work engagement was assessed using the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale. Furthermore, follower characteristics were measured using the scale that was adapted from the scale developed by Dvir and Shamir (2003). The simple regression analysis was used to test the significance of the impact of transformational leadership on follower work engagement and the moderated multiple regression analysis was used to test the moderating effect of follower characteristics on this relationship. The results of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between transformational leadership on work engagement of followers of manufacturing industry and the follower characteristics moderate the positive relationship between these two variables. Thus, when follower characteristics are more positive, transformational leadership has a more positive effect on follower work engagement. The implications of the findings and possible directions for future research are discussed.Item The Effect of Work-Life Balance on Job Satisfaction: A Study of Operational Level Employees in Brandix Apparel Solutions(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Madushika, L.M.,; Sangarandeniya, Y.M.S.W.V.Socioeconomic change, intense global competitiveness, and work culture make it difficult for employees to balance the two most important aspects of their lives; Work and family life is constantly under stress, leading to many negative consequences for individual employees as well as organization. The work interference with personal life, personal life interference with work, work personal life enhancement serves as dimensions of the independent variable: work-life balance while nature of the work, compensation, working conditions, co-workers & supervisors, balance between work and life serves as the dimensions of dependent variable: job satisfaction. A conceptual framework was formulated by using the independent variables and the dependent variable and hypotheses were formulated in order to find whether the independent variables have an impact with the dependent variable or not. In order to carry out the study, 102 machine operators from Brandix Apparel Solutions were selected for the sample using simple random sampling method. Standard Questionnaires were used to gather data from the sample and secondary data sources were used to collect additional information regarding the company. According to the results of the correlation analysis, it was found that there is a significant high positive relationship between Work-Life Balance and Job Satisfaction. Further, the results reviewed that there is a significant positive impact of Work-Life Balance on Job Satisfaction.Item Emotional Intelligence as a Predictor of Work-Life Balance with the Moderating Effect of Coworker Support(Proceedings of the Annual Research Symposium 2012, Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2012) Sangarandeniya, Y.M.S.W.V.; Wijewantha, P.In the modern day employment context, with extensive demands placed on professionals, they are facing the challenge of striking a balance between their personal life and work-life, irrespective of whether they work in the state or the private sector. With the strenuous nature of the job and the limited amount of research tapping this area it was identified as appropriate to look at how the medical doctors strike a balance between their work and personal life. Accordingly, this study fills that gap in knowledge by looking at how Emotional Intelligence (EI) competency of doctors impact on their ability of striking a Work-Life Balance (WLB). EI is a cross-section of emotional and social competencies that determine how well people understand and express themselves, understand and relate with others, and cope with their daily demands and pressures. Further, it was tested whether the perceived co-worker support which is a key construct associated with work in the health sector is moderating this relationship between the independent and the dependent variable. EI was measured using the Trait Meta-mood scale whereas WLB was measured using the scale adopted by Rangreji (2010). Items measuring perceived co-worker support were adapted from the perceived organizational support scale used by Wayne, Shore, and Liden (1997). Data were collected from a sample of 244 doctors working in teaching hospitals using a self-administered questionnaire. The impact of EI on WLB was tested using simple regression analysis, whereas the impact of the moderating variable on this relationship was tested using the moderated multiple regression analysis. Results indicated that EI has a significant predicting effect on WLB of medical doctors and that relationship was significantly moderated by perceived co-worker support. Finally theoretical and practical implications are discussed.Item Emotional Intelligence as a Predictor of Work-Life Balance with the Moderating Effect of Coworker Support(University of Kelaniya, 2012) Sangarandeniya, Y.M.S.W.V.; Wijewantha, P.In the modern day employment context, with extensive demands placed on professionals, they are facing the challenge of striking a balance between their personal life and work-life, irrespective of whether they work in the state or the private sector. In developing the questionnaire with a seven point Likert scale, standard questionnaire (Shibly, 2011) was used to measure HRIS user satisfaction and to measure HRIS Success, questions were prepared based on the study of Hussain, Wallace, and Cornelius (2007). A pilot survey was also conducted before the distribution of the questionnaire to the sample. The whole population of 32 senior HR executives were selected to the sample and the response rate was 94%. Simple Regression and Correlation were mainly used for the analysis of the study; and the results revealed that HRIS user satisfaction has a significant positive impact on HRIS success in the context of the study. State University students were chosen as the population of the study. The sample size was 253, and data collection was done through a selfadministered questionnaire and convenience sampling technique. A Google form was created and distributed to collect data. The number of undergraduates who responded was 255. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS), version 23.0, was used as a tool for data analysis, and both descriptive and inferential statistics, namely correlation and regression, were used to analyze the data. The results indicate that academic stress is positively linked with cyberloafing behavior, and boredom is positively linked with cyberloafing behavior.Item Impact of Effectiveness of Online Learning on Students’ Satisfaction towards the Online Learning(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) Minosha, A.S.S.; Sangarandeniya, Y.M.S.W.V.This study aimed to assess the impact of the effectiveness of online learning on students’ satisfaction with online learning.
