Normally the Asian elephant is smaller than the African elephant. As such Asian elephants are often exaggerated. Asian Elephants in Sri Lanka is very popular and very important topic at present. Besides there is a gigantic connection between elephants and Sri Lankan society. Elephants are connected with various aspects such as zoological aspects, ecological and environmental aspects, historical aspects, art and religious aspects, literature and folklore aspects and sociological aspects. However there is limited literature related to Asian elephants in Sri Lanka. This research attention has been paid to collect all literature like books, journals, manuscripts, journal articles, newspaper articles, non-book materials, websites and internet sources related to Asian elephants. The main objective of this study is to identify all the literature related to Asian elephants in Sri Lanka. Other objectives are to categorize the literature about Asian elephants and to create a selective annotated bibliography of Asian elephants in Sri Lanka. Mainly this research is based on the secondary data. Secondary data is gathered from dictionary, encyclopedia, periodicals, text books, web sites, etc. The main tool of the study was the National Bibliography of Sri Lanka. The study was conducted within a limited period; since 2000-2015. According to the National Bibliographies, bibliography data was collected related to Asian elephants. There are 12 National Bibliographies per year and nearly 200 National Bibliographies were studied. But number of publication were several. So that study was conducted back till 1990. This study tries to collect 100 or more entries of bibliography related to the Asian elephants. It has to play the main role of displaying vision, mission, tasks and everything of the institutes. So that, many government institutes use Websites to disseminate government information to the public. The main objective of the study was to find out whether the government Websites provided relevant information to the university community through their Websites. This study aim to find out solutions for five research questions, what information is required by university community, what sort of information is available in the government Websites, do the Websites provide relevant information to the university community, what kind of information services are provided by the government Websites, is there a better way to present government information through the Websites. In this study, both qualitative and quantitative methodologies were applied. Mainly this is a survey research. To collect primary data for the study, interviews, desk research and Website evaluation tools were used. 125 interviews were conducted among university staff and undergraduates to find out required information from the government Website. Desk research was conducted to collect existing information on the Websites. Sampled government institutes were evaluated using evaluation tools like WAVE, Google Page Speed and Hubspot Marketing Grader. After analyzing the data and evaluating Websites, it was realized that government institutes are unable to reach the expected level of the university community by providing online services and relevant information. There is a high demand for online services on government Websites. But a very few government Websites are provided online services for the users. Most of the government Websites were put on lower grade by the evaluation tools. However, Sri Lanka is popular for elephants among the world. In the Sri Lankan context, Sri Lankan people have a longstanding relationship as well as a deep connection with elephants. The wild elephant population is approximately 4500-5000 in Sri Lanka. Most people are interested in searching for information on elephants. There are various means of gathering information related to elephants in Sri Lanka. Among them, websites play an important role in delivering information to the public. The main objective of this research is to identify the existing information on the websites related to Asian elephants in Sri Lanka and the other objectives are to categorize the information on the website and to evaluate the websites related to Asian elephants in Sri Lanka. In this study, both qualitative and quantitative methodologies were applied. This study is primarily a survey research. Two websites were used to identify the existing information on the website and to evaluate websites. Websites of the Biodiversity and Elephant conservation Trust and Elephant Safari Sri Lanka were used as samples for the study. Analyzed data revealed that information approximating background, historical facts, contacts, activities, publications, safari details, accommodation are available on websites related to Asian elephants. According to the results of evaluation tools, websites of the Biodiversity and Elephant conservation Trust and Elephant Safari Sri Lanka get acceptable marks. However, more upgrades are required to improve the quality of websites. In order to address these discrepancies, some major moves are suggested to upgrade the rank of websites related to Asian elephants which include following WCAG and proprietary accessibility guidelines, establishing formal web accessibility lows and guidelines, upgrading online services and providing training to web masters. Based on four objectives, this research was conducted. The main objective of this research is to identify the social status of the Teacher Librarians. Other objectives of the research are to identify the social acceptance of the Teacher Librarians, to evaluate the job satisfaction among the Teacher Librarians and to identify the barriers and obstacles of the Teacher Librarians. Survey method used for this study. The primary data for this study was collected through a structured questionnaire. Sample was Teacher Librarians in 5 schools in the Gampaha district. The results indicate that all librarians are satisfied with their job and most of them are well qualified for the profession. There is a high acceptance for librarian as a teacher from staff and students of the school but only 60% of librarians were invited for all functions and programme in the school. Social status and social acceptance of teacher librarian is very low in outside the school. Developing ethics and attitudes of public, organizing awareness programme for public to describe the profession of teacher librarian, establishing professional organization of teacher librarians, conducting training program and workshops for librarians to develop their knowledge and personality are some major suggestions to fill these inconsistencies.Item A study on usage on internet by undergraduates in faculty of Humanities: special reference to University of Kelaniya(Royal Asiatic Society, 2013) de Silva, A.P.U.Item User survey on online library resources and services during the Covid-19 pandemic: A case of University of Kelaniya.(University Librarians Association of Sri Lanka, 2021) Ranaweera, R.A.A.S.; de Silva, A.P.U.; Rubasinghe, A.S.Covid-19 is one of the tragic outbreaks of the world. Emergence of Covid-19 has become a global crisis and has created a massive impact on the day today lives of people including business, education, health, transportation and careers. Temporary closures and social distancing were introduced to limit the spread of the virus in the society. Education was drastically affected by these restrictions and preventive measures. Universities were physically closed but methods were devised to continue their educational process. Online teaching and e-learning technologies were applied in university education. Along with that, university libraries round the globe also shifted their services more towards to digital and virtual environments. In Sri Lanka too, university libraries also shifted their formal services to digital platforms as much as possible to cater to the academic community who study and work from home. This study reflects on the user’s opinion on the library resources and services rendered to them by the library, university of Kelaniya during the outbreak of Covid-19. It also investigated the challenges and barriers faced by the users using library facilities in this period. There were 264 undergraduates from the faculties of Commerce and Management Studies, Computing and Technology and Humanities participated in this survey. Adhering to the health guidelines, an online questionnaire was distributed among the study sample using the Google online form to collect data for this study. Study findings confirm that the 59% of the users were satisfied with the online library services and facilities offered by the library.
