Item Emerging Leadership Skills and Competencies of LIS Professionals.(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya,Sri Lanka., 2017) Kavitha, P.; Aravind, S.Emerging technologies in the field of LIS has resulted in the need for LIS Professionals to acquire adopting new skills and competencies. This paper addresses the coming out of leadership skills and the competencies necessary for a Library professional who want to be notable from the swarm, need to nurture and attain assured skills and competencies in broad like Generic skills, Managerial skills, Professional skills and ICT skills. To be specific: Vision, Trust And Values, Honesty, Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Emotional stability, Strategic orientation, Dominance, Innovative mindset, Customer focus, Enthusiasm, Teamwork and collaboration , Interpersonal and Intra personal skills, Research-based competencies, Critical thinking, problem solving and decision making , Communication , Ability to tackle unfamiliar problems , Conscientiousness, Confidence, Commitment, Creativity, Independent, initiating and proactive; self-directed , Self-assurance, Tough-mindedness, learning Ability from situations and events, Social boldness, including failures and successes, Ability To Inspire, Intuition, Leadership style and traits, Compulsiveness, acquiring all these the LIS Professionals stay extremely confident in their abilities and They are not boastful which would make them successful leaders and the drive to pursue their professional goals. Thus skills acquired by a librarian persuades library’s efficacy and Competencies are the set of talents needed to achieve the role of LIS Professional by applying the skills to cope with the rapidly changing world.Item Gender Variation and Implementation ICT of Information Services.(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya,Sri Lanka., 2017) Aravind, S.; Chinnasamy, K.This study examined the gender variation and the implementation of ICT of information services provided in Engineering College in Din Digul Region in Tamilnadu, India. The present study demonstrates and elaborates the primary the purpose of using ICT enabled library services, to assess to what extent users are utilized ICT based library services and facilities. The paper also determines the satisfaction level of users regarding research work, online database services and infrastructure facilities. Most of the students use the information service for education purposes and for checking website. 64 percentages of the respondents are male and 36 percentages of the respondents are Female. 81 (37.5%) of the respondents are using the information systems for studying purpose. 93 respondents spend one hour for the website usage. 80 (37.04%) of the respondents are accessing at night only. The co-efficient correction positive and their relationship are perfect for the implementation and helps to save space. It is clear that there are numerous factors that hinder Gender equity in the implementations of Information Technology sector. Some of the factors are intertwined; i.e. the impacts of one factor directly affect another factor, which consequently affects the female imbalance towards Information Technology related careers. On the other hand, these problems can be addressed by application of the counter measures elucidated. In fact, the use of these solutions cannot eradicate this imbalance completely. As many efforts to eradicate the obstacles are attempted, more barriers emerge. It is therefore concluded that it should be a gradual process. Minimal barriers are expected in the end.Item Information Retrieval by Social Science Research Scholars in Electronic Environment: A Study.(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya,Sri Lanka., 2017) Chinnasamy, K.; Aravind, S.Present study required to know the information search pattern and behavior in electronic environment by the social science research scholars of selected 7 universities in Tamil Nadu. The study based on a questionnaire method and 700 questionnaires distributed and received back 645 questionnaires with duly filled. The study concluded that all research scholars in social sciences at universities are advised to acquire proper training, strategies for information retrieval with tools is essential in future. Further, it suggested that LIS professionals are liable to make them awareness by proper guidance, orientation, strategies to train them well to use the available online information sources effectively with accuracy is an need of hour for the scientific and knowledge community in the present scenario.Item New Dimensions of Users Needs in Academic Libraries: Indian Perspectives.(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya,Sri Lanka., 2017) Muthumari, P.; Chinnasamy, K.; Aravind, S.This paper mainly focused on identifying the demand of the library user’s in several aspects. In this scenario library users of the institutions are also eager to enrich the knowledge in subject as well as apart from curriculum for their survival. Therefore, they expect more from libraries especially in the part of resource for update their knowledge.
