    The Comparative study on the Children Library Service in Public Libraries in Sri Lanka:Libraries Selected from Gampaha District.

    When Creating Citizens to the Society with Intellectuals and with more disciplined, the Public Library would contribute much for this task. The main duty that contributes by a library are collecting Knowledge, Organizing, depositing and giving facilities to the reader to obtain the necessary knowledge for usage. The public library is the only institution, which gives services without any charge from the public, and it does not consider the intellects, ignorant, race, creed, religion and the age. The public library supplies service on behalf of the children and adults. The aim of this study is to focus the activities of the children libraries attached to public libraries in the municipals, urban councils and Divisional Secretaries in the Gampaha district. The issues faced with the public libraries when giving efficient and more fruitful service to the children is the research problem. According to the problems identified, there a search has been done by this study to identify at what is level of the continuance and the activities of the service of the children library services attached to public libraries. In order to collect data, questionnaires, interviews, discussions, investigations etc. have been used. When identifying the issues and problems those affected to the development of the children’s library service in the Gampaha district, many reasons have been forwarded to follow the procedure to improving the conditions of the children affiliated library service in the Gampaha district. Main problem was the non-receipt of the infrastructure facilities as needed. It was also further disclosed that the infrastructure facilities that is given to the public libraries must be improved. It was revealed by this study that at what level is the service of the children libraries in the Gampaha district are. Accordingly the termination is noted with how the problems affected for the children libraries and the suitable ideas and proposals to solve those problems.

    The Impact of Recent Flood Hazard on the Public Libraries in Sri Lanka: A Survey.

    Disaster is an incident which can be caused or produced by two main factors are like man-made and natural. This paper demonstrates the damaged suffered by public libraries of Kalutara and Ratnapura districts during May and early June 2017 floods. Other objectives are to investigate the actions being taken by librarians during and after the floods in those two areas and to examine how far the librarians ready to face natural disasters in the future. Nine public libraries were used to collect the primary data from Kalutara and Ratnapura districts. Two public libraries in Kalutara district-Tebuwana and Neboda and other seven public libraries in Ratnapura district- and they are Madduwa, Muwagama, Batugedara, Devalayagawa, Polhengoda, Dammulla, and Pathakada public library. The sample of this study involves librarians or their assignees of those inundated libraries and the questions consist of open-ended and the respondents were required to answer freely. Relevant data were collected from them by conducting a telephone interview. The collected data were analyzed and tabulated as per the set of objectives of the study. Among all libraries, disaster management teams have not been appointed yet and they do not possess duly prepared disaster plans yet. The study revealed a number of strategies are there to be implemented to ensure effective disaster management process which include a proper training on conservation and preservation, disaster management and planning, to use modern Information Communication Technologies, particularly the social media for the prevention, getting ready, pay attention and to have necessary skills and competencies in the deliberated area.

    Role of the Public Library in Promoting Tourist Information Services with a Support of Formal Online Information Service.

    The foreign industry, which is a skillfullabor business that holds the third place in the national and international economy has already, became the most prominent foreign exchange earner in the world. This study focusses to investigate the feasibility of launching an online foreign information service for tourism. It was aimed to use the public library system in order to improve the local tourist industry, which is one of the economic booms of Asian tourism. Since the study is limited in influenced public libraries of Colombo, Nuwaraeliya and Hikkaduwa maintaining an online tourist information center establishing website recognizing tourist attracting points and monuments directing the tourist community towards them and improving the information services by the use of the second generation web 2.0 on the internet. The primary data was collected by a questionnaire focusing on tree librarians of three public libraries involved in the research process and a structured questionnaire for thirty tourists ten from each of the public library domain area. The conclusion is that the three public libraries do not operate any online information service at present. It was found that adequate tourist information management is not in operation and therefore there is an acute demand and a need for tourist information management for public libraries particularly in tourist dominant areas. It is a highly requirement that the public library should conduct tourist information service for both local and foreign tourists. Building mutual relationship between tourism and libraries is a dire need. This will be beneficial for shelf- help and the cooperation between tourist industry and the public libraries. This will help marketing the information service, revealing unrecognized tourist destination and adding the foreign exchange income that flows into private institutions and multinational companies daily with proper management with a view to earn prospective national income. This will help to create more job avenues and the public libraries will become more user-friendly places with local and foreign tourists.

    Impact of Working Culture of Job Satisfaction: A Study Based on Public Librarians in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

    Job satisfaction has become an important topic of discussion around the world for many years. The factors that contribute to job satisfaction have varied greatly among researchers. The Job satisfaction of library professionals is a key factor for delivery of quality service and it ensures the user satisfaction. In the modern era, public libraries as knowledge centers are facing several challenges due to the rapid changes of the society. In order to face for these challenges, satisfaction of its employees is foremost. The main purpose of this paper is to present the result of the impact of working environment on public librarians' job satisfaction. The present study typically considered facets were physical working condition, human relationships, professional development, and personalneeds. The study employed a quantitative methodology. Data was collected through a self-administered survey questionnaire. The target population consists of public librarians in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Simple random sampling is used for collecting data from 25 librarians. The result indicated that a positive relationship between working environment and public librarians’ job satisfaction in Colombo District in Sri Lanka. Originality-There has been no study done on public librarians’ job satisfaction in Sri Lanka.
