    Workplace Diversity and Organisational Performance in Selected Distilleries Firms in Southwest, Nigeria

    The increasing effect orchestrated by the advent of globalisation has necessitated more forms of interactions from individuals from different background, culture, and sexual orientations. On a broader term, corporate organisations globally now prioritises being more culturally diverse, and high level of multiculturalism in their workforces. This is due to the distinction reflected herein as compared to what was in vogue during the traditional era of work. In this regard, an investigation from the nigerian perspective become necessary; therefore, this study analysed workplace diversity from the paradigm of organisational performance using selected distilleries firms in ogun state, which is one of the long-standing commercial hubs in nigeria. The theories, which underpinned this study, were similarity/attraction theory and social identity theory. The study population was seven hundred and forty-two personnel from five (5) selected firms and a sampling frame of two hundred and forty-nine (249) employees was drawn using the multistage sampling approach. It was revealed in the findings that cultural diversity has an effect on adaptive performance (r2=0.931<0.5) and age diversity significantly share a nexus with task performance (r2 = 0.812, < 0.05). The study concluded that the practicing diversity is a catalyst for enhancing a strong relationship among employees within an organization. As it affords them become more proactive and improve their creativity and skills. Thus, study recommended that management of distilleries firms in south-western nigeria should develop structures that are supportive in the facilitation of managing diversity through the engagement of melting pot pattern.

    Exploring the Challenges for Work-Life Balance among Married Female Nurses

    The topic of Work-Life Balance (WLB) is highly significant in today's fiercely competitive world, and it is a challenge that is critical to be balanced. The principal aim of this research endeavor is to discern and delineate the multifaceted challenges intrinsic to the delicate equilibrium of work and personal life that confront married female nurses employed in government hospitals across Sri Lanka. Accordingly, the problem statement guiding this scholarly investigation is oriented toward the identification and comprehensive analysis of the obstacles and impediments intertwined with harmonizing the demands of their professional nursing responsibilities with their personal lives, emphasizing the distinctive context of the Sri Lankan government hospital setting. To achieve this, the researchers conducted a mixed study design that involved the collection of primary data through questionnaires and interviews. Convenience sampling was used to gather quantitative data and the Purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample for qualitative data. The sample size was 384 for the quantitative data and the sample for the qualitative study was determined by the saturation level of 12 married female employees. The findings of the study revealed that the major challenges of WLB faced by married female nurses are time management, work stress, multitasking, and personal issues. Key recommendations of this study are implementing supportive legislation and initiatives to aid nurses in work-life balance, providing support systems, flexibility, and family-friendly policies, promoting balance strategies, continuing research for tailored solutions, and acknowledging the societal importance of work-life balance for married female nurses.

    Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Academic Adjustment of First-Year Management Undergraduates of State Universities in Sri Lanka

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of emotional intelligence on academic adjustment of first-year Management undergraduates of State Universities in Sri Lanka. To achieve this purpose, the researcher established three basic questions. Those are to explore the existing level of Emotional Intelligence on Academic Adjustment, relationships between Emotional Intelligence and Academic Adjustment, and the impact of Emotional Intelligence on Academic Adjustment of first-year Management undergraduates of State Universities in Sri Lanka. A structured questionnaire was used as the method of data collection and a sample of 347 first-year management undergraduates in state universities were selected using a stratified sampling method, through Morgan Table. The researcher considered three state universities in Western Province, Sri Lanka: University of Kalaniya, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and University of Colombo. Quantitative research approach was used for this study. The data were analyzed using reliability analysis, validity analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis. The result indicated that Appraisal and Expression of Emotions, Regulation of Emotions, and Utilization of Emotion are in high level among selected respondents. Also, results indicated that emotional intelligence has a strong positive relationship with academic adjustment among first-year undergraduates of state universities in Western Province, Sri Lanka. Further, regression results reveal that Appraisal and Expression of Emotions (0.330), Regulation of Emotions (0.117), and Utilization of Emotion (0.146) significantly impact on Academic Adjustment among first-year management undergraduates of state universities in the western province, of Sri Lanka.

    Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Employee Work-Life Balance: A Study of Clinical, Non-Executive Level Employees in ABC Hospital (Pvt) Limited

    The current study examines the impact of Emotional Intelligence (EI) on the Work-life Balance of Clinical, Non-Executive level employees in ABC Hospital (Pvt) Ltd. This study explored the relationship and examined the influence of those variables among non-executive level employees who work in a service Company in Sri Lanka. This research is a deductive (theory–testing) research. This research was conducted using survey research strategy and quantitative research method. Non-Executive clinical level employees of ABC Hospitals were chosen as the population of the study. A Simple random sampling technique was used calculate the sample size. Accordingly, sample size was 155 observations and used primary data as data source, data collection was done through a self-administered printed questionnaire. The number of employees who responded was 155 among 160 employees. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS), version 23.0 was used as the data analysis tool. The results indicate that emotional intelligence has significant direct effects on employee work-life balance. It can be concluded that self-management is the most impacted dimension of emotional intelligence in determining employee work-life balance. According to the hypotheses testing, there is a positive correlation between work-life balance and the dimensions of emotional intelligence. Parametric test including correlation and multiple linear regressions proves the results findings. There is a statistically significant relationship between emotional intelligence and the level of work-life balance. Management can take necessary actions to enhance the EI of their employees so that it will support them to have a proper work-life balance. Management needs to focus on the level of EI of their employees to enrich work-life balance to achieve higher level of productivity, commitment, and involvement.

    Talent Management for Enhancing the Efficiency of Human Resources in the Public Sector of Sri Lanka: A Comparative Study

    The Sri Lankan Public Sector has often been criticized for being overstaffed, inefficient and a burden to the economy. This has partly been attributed to the deficiencies in employee talents management. This study attempts to find the direction for augmenting human resource in public sector in Sri Lanka through Talent Management (TM), by benchmarking against standards from Japan, Singapore, and Norway. This study adopts a qualitative research approach. One-on-one interviews were conducted with the Executive Officers of Public Service of Sri Lanka. Also, data on TM practices in Public Sector in Japan were gathered through a questionnaire. There was also an extensive review of relevant literature on the study concept from the Public Service of Japan, Singapore and Norway, which rank top in Government Efficiency Indicator. Using the Case study approach, the data obtained was analysed by comparative analysis to compare TM policies and activities of these countries. The study revealed several drawbacks concerning TM in Public Service of Sri Lanka. Analysing various TM models of countries having high standards, the benchmark study proposes an effective Talent Management Model for the Public Sector in Sri Lanka, including Talent Gap analysis, Talent Acquisition and Augmenting, development, assessment, measurement, retention, and transition.
