Particularly, gathering information from various types of sources such as print, electronic and digital resources is diverse from individual user. At present scope of academic institutions introduce new courses for demands of the society. In this scenario library users of the institutions are also eager to enrich the knowledge in subject as well as apart from curriculum for their survival. Therefore, they expect more from libraries especially in the part of resource for update their knowledge. Even though the responsibility of the library professionals is help to access information from different type of resources like print or electronic.

    Highly Cited Papers from India and Sri Lanka: An Altmetric Perspective.

    t Altmetrics are metrics and qualitative data that are corresponding to conventional, citation-based metrics (Altmetric.com, 2015) .It contains the citations received in wikipedia, bookmarks in mendely, citeulike and other reference management systems and also tracks the sharing of scholarly publications through social media channels such as twitter. This study aims to analyze the complete altmetric activities such as mendely readership, twitter attention etcof the top ten highly cited papers in India and Sri Lanka. Web of science will act as the source for collecting highly cited papers from India and Sri Lanka, The papers with the highest citations along with digital object identifier DOI number from both the countries as on date will be considered for the study. To analyze the altmetric details of the highly cited papers in both the countries, altmerticbookmarklet (a free tool) will be used to collect the altmetric details of these scholarly articles. The findings of the study will highlight the altmetric status of the top ten highly cited articles in India and Sri Lanka, further altmetrics allows tracking the visibility and impact of these articles through social media platforms and reference managers

    The Expansion of Publication of Newspapers and Periodicals: A Study Based on Newspapers and Periodicals Published in India from 2001-2013.

    Newspapers and periodicals are one of the main sources of information utilized by individuals to keep them up-to-date regarding current happenings in the world and also to know about other information related to entertainment and leisure. The readers of a newspaper or periodical vary with its periodicity and the language. Publishers are mainly focused on the publishing publications with highest demand to achieve maximum profits. Hence, the identification of existing publication trend is important to become a successful publisher and to achieve huge reader population. Thus, the main objective of this study is to identify the most popular periodicity and language of newspapers and periodicals. The data for this study were extracted from the database namely Open Government Data (OGD) Platform India (data.gov.in). To identify the expansion of publication of newspapers and periodicals, data were extracted from OGD secondary database from 2001 to 2013 period. The findings revealed that the periodicals which published on weekly basis followed by monthly basis periodicals were the most popular throughout the considered period. In terms of language of the publication from 2001-2013 Hindi language periodicals had the highest number of publications which is followed by English language publications. Consequently, publishers must focus on publishing Hindi and English language periodicals published weekly and monthly basis to achieve vast reader population and to generate enormous profit.

    Status of Institutional Repositories in SAARC Countries: An Analytical Study

    This paper examines the usage of institutional repositories in SAARC countries. The data for the study has been collected from the website of respective institutions in each SAARC country. The study analyzed the Communities and Sub Communities, Contribution of authors of the institutional repositories in SAARC Countries. This study adopted an analytical method where the data are readily available in the website. At first, the institutions that are using Dspace software for building Institutional repository in each of the eight SAARC countries were identified and sorted out separately. Then data regarding the collections, communities etc were separately collected from the website the respective institutions. The study also further analysed the number of institutions using Dspace ,their collections, number of Communities and Sub Communities available, number of authors etc.,. All these data were subsequently tabulated for making observations. This paper analyzes the usage of institutional repositories in SAARC countries. In India, Jadavpur University and Osmania University has the maximum number of collections. In Sri Lanka, University of Colombo and University of Peradeniya has the maximum number of collections. In Bangladesh, BRAC University Institutional Repository and Daffodil International University Institutional Digital Repository has the maximum number ofcollections. In Afghanistan, ACKU Library Catalogue has the highest number of collections. In Nepal, Madan PuraskarPustakalayahyas the maximum number of collections.

    Scholarly Information Input for Quality Research: Initiatives of India

    Higher education in India witnessed tremendous growth after independence with systematic reforms. The success of any organisation lies with quality information and it is treated as most important and valuable asset. Quality assurance and development plays central role in strategic planning in Higher education. The major reason for more information is development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which has made easy to publish and retrieve the documents over the web. There is no much control mechanism to check the relevance of information published over the web has lead to publish more documents, in which relevance of majority of the information is questionable. But, something is better than nothing and there is still some relevant, accurate, timely, updated information is available over the web. Publication of quality research may take more time, but the final output of the results will be useful to the society. On the other hand, more number of low quality publication will work against the system which will hamper the funding and attracting good students community. Quality information is the information, which is perceived and used by the customer. It has certain attributes such as accuracy, relevancy, free from bias, currency, trustworthy, and so on. In order to ensure the quality in research, the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, India has taken some of the measures to be implemented in the Indian University System. This paper discusses about various attributes involved in quality information, its impact on quality research and some of the strategies taken by the UGC for ensuring the quality in higher education research.
