Item Coping with Psychological Issues Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic Times: Perspectives of Undergraduates of Non-State Universities(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2022) Weerarathna, R. S.; Dunuwila, V. R.; Jayasuriya, N. U.; Madhusanka, A. K. P.; Ravishanka, M. K. U.; Pothupitiya, S. N.The COVID-19 pandemic caused much upheaval to people's lifestyles worldwide/globally. Even university undergraduates had to switch from conventional physical classrooms to online learning. According to several studies, various issues pertaining to online learning have intensified the stress levels of undergraduates. This study adopted a qualitative approach. Primary data were gathered through structured interviews, from which coping mechanisms used by the students were identified based on a thematic analysis performed through NVIVO. Coping mechanisms played a critical role in ensuring these undergraduates' ability to handle their psychological issues and continue their academic work. The population included non-state undergraduates in Sri Lanka in the academic year 2020 and the sample size was 30. Findings revealed online learning, high workload, and IT infrastructure issues as key challenges undergraduates face during the pandemic. Among these, two main themes were identified as individual activities and group activities regarding coping mechanisms adopted by undergraduates to alleviate stress. This study recommends/highlights the importance of undergraduates engaging in such activities that help sustain their psychological status. Similarly, the study emphasized the role of universities and higher education institutes in facilitating and promoting such activities among their student population.Item The Nexus between Work-Life Conflict and Job Satisfaction: Evidence from Network and System Integration Industry in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2014) Wijesekare, N.; Weligamage, S.Work life conflict is an inter role conflict that arises due to conflicting roles required by organization and from one’s family. Objective of this study is to investigate the impact of work life conflict on job satisfaction of employees in Network and System Integration industry in Sri Lanka. Data for the study was from 147 employees working in different Network and System Integration organizations of Sri Lanka using structured questionnaire. Correlation analysis was used to find the association between identified variables of the study. Findings revealed that job satisfaction is significantly negatively correlated with Family to Work interference and Stress. However, the correlation of Work to Family Interference and working hours are positive and insignificant which shows that these two variables does not affect the job satisfaction of the employees in Network and System Integration Industry. The findings of the study suggest that work family conflict and job satisfaction becomes an increasingly important concern for organizations when focusing on the issue of developing employees in the changing global and regional scenario. Information Technology organizations should come up with effective and efficient work – life balance policies and programs and foster an organizational culture that supports the use of available policies is also of great importance. This will help to reduce the work – life conflict for employees in Network and System Integration Industry.Item Antecedents of Consumer Materialism: An exploration in Sri Lankan Context(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya., 2019) Malkanthie, M. A. A.Materialism is becoming a major problem in the world. Materialistic consumers consume more and even unnecessary things. Overconsumption is one of the major threats to the future of human survival. Hence, the intention of this research is to determine the antecedents of materialism in Sri Lankan context. Through the Literature review, the antecedents of materialism were identified as; depression, anxiety, self- esteem, and stress. Positivist approach with deductive reasoning was used in this study. Individual adult person was taken as the unit of study of this research and this is a single cross -sectional study. Sample of 450 adults was selected according to judgmental sampling technique representing nine provinces in Sri Lanka. Structured questionnaire was used as the data collection tool. Structural Equation Modeling was used to analyze the data. Findings show that self-esteem, depression, and stress significantly affect materialism. Further, Self-esteem and depression negatively affect the materialism while “stress” positively affect the materialism. These findings are useful to Marketing Managers to develop more effective marketing strategies in terms of segmentation, strategic brand communication and promotion. By accurately segmenting based on the facet of materialism that is dominant in a specific consumer behavior context will lead to the development of brand communication that better addresses consumer concerns.Item THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY INTERVENTION ON STRESS MANAGEMENT WITH MEDIATING EFFECT ON THE JOB SATISFACTION OF PRODUCTION LEVEL EMPLOYEES IN THE RUBBER PRODUCTS MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY IN COLOMBO DISTRICT(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2025) Bandara Y.M.W.A.R.; Janadari M.P.N.This is a study that investigates the influence of technology on stress management as mediated by job satisfaction within a cross-section of production employees in the rubber manufacturing industry in Colombo. The speeding advancement of technologies has impelled new ways of stress management for employees in rubber products manufacturing industry and its consequent impact on overall job satisfaction. The research has been conducted by taking quantitative approach methods, collecting data through surveys from 103 samples drawn from the production employees working within the rubber products manufacturing companies in Colombo District. And data analysis has been done by using SPSS software: descriptive statistics, correlations and regressions have been carried out. Further, it analyzed the link between the use of technology such as automation and digital tools which are using of production level employees for stress management and its impacts made by stress management on job satisfaction. Findings from the research prove that there is no positive relationship between the technology intervention on stress management. And the relationship between technology intervention and the job satisfaction is positively accepted. When it comes to the mediating effect results, the technology has a significant impact on stress management through job Satisfaction. This will help to reduce the work – life conflict for employees in Network and System Integration IndustryItem The Nexus between Stress Level and Internship Performance: Evidence from Accountancy Interns from a Selected State University in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Divassini, P.This research was undertaken with the purpose of assessing the level of stress and determining the nexus between gender, professional courses, internship stressors and internship performance of accountancy interns at the University of Kelaniya. The data was collected from 93 respondents through a self-developed questionnaire survey. This study was being conducted at the end of the internship program. The gathered data were keyed and analyzed by using SPSS. The obtained results were valid and reliable for all items in the questionnaire. Independent sample test and regression analysis were applied for this study. R-square was signposted by 58.2% of variation of gender, professional course and internship stressors. The results showed non-significant difference between gender and internship performance. Internship stressors were negatively related to internship performance whereas professional courses did not influence the internship performance while other factors were constant. Another finding of the research is that the escalation of accountancy interns’ stress levels had less impact on internship performance than expected.
