Item Breaking the Loop, Finding the Balance: Predictors of Social Media Detox among Graduate Students(ALISE, 2024) Dilinika, J.M.S.; Huanga, Kuo-TingSocial media detox is recognized as an effective strategy for mitigating the negative impacts of excessive social media usage. This study explores the factors influencing graduate students’ decisions to engage in social media detox. Factors related to social media overload and general social media experience were examined as potential predictors. Data were collected using an online survey from 179 graduate students who are active on social media. The results of the study revealed a high prevalence of social media overload among graduate students, with information overload emerging as the strongest predictor of social media detox. This suggests that effectively managing the constant influx of information on social media platforms is crucial for reducing stress and promoting digital well-being among graduate students. The study provides practical implications and further research directions for promoting digital well-being and enhancing information management skills.Item Information Needs and Information Seeking Behavior of Agriculture Scientist of the Department of Agriculture in Sri Lanka.(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya,Sri Lanka., 2017) Dilrukshi, W.P.T.Information seeking patterns are consisted to be different among usergroups.This study examines the issues of information needs and seeking patterns of the user group of Agriculture scientist of the department of Agriculture in Sri Lanka.The specific objectives of the study first,to identify the information seeking patterns of the Agriculture scientists. Second, to find out what are the resources they need to use. Third, to find out satisfaction level of the agricultural scientists with the available information of their libraries and suggest the possible solutions to overcome the problems faced/encounter when accessing the required information by the agricultural scientists.A survey was conducted by using structured questionnaire among the all agricultural scientist of the two research institutes of the Agriculture Department.The findings revealed that Agriculture scientist in the category of very weaker competence in relation to use of library and also spend less time in the library of their institutes. Most of the respondents are seek information for their research work. It has reveled that respondents are preferred to used journals when find the information for their research work. The paper conclude that scientist are required proper instruction and programs aiming at improving their information seeking skills. They are facing lot of barriers when used the library in their institutions. It is recommended to librarians that the existing strategies should be re design and re shape to address these problems properly and to improve the information searching skills of agriculture scientist of the department of Agriculture.Also more IT and other facilities should be implemented to the Agriculture Libraries.Item Reading habits among school students: A study based on school children in Dehiovita educational zone(Research Centre for Social Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Gunarathne, D.G.R.L.Today readers are tomorrow leaders .People tend to read become knowledgeable persons .If child and elder people have good and correct reading habits, it is a good opportunity to make an intelligent society .The school students can obtain good quality education from successful reading .The main objective of this study is to explore and identify the reading habits of school students. The other objectives are to study the factors for upgrading their reading habits, the internet use for effective reading and to study what are the information some schools need .They compel for reading place and time spend for reading .The survey research method was used for this study .There are nearly 10,000 schools in Sri Lanka .The Kegalle district in Dehiovita region has 279 schools .The population of this study is A/L art subject doing students in schools .The sample was 137 students selected form three schools. Rathnavali Maha Vidylaya Mattamagoda, Sri Sena Maha Vidyalaya Imbulana, Dehiovita National school Dehiovita .A questionnaire was administered to obtain primary data among the sample .Interviews were also done for collecting data .Data analysis was done using SPSS software. It revealed that more school students prefer to use internet than reading books .They search information but they use it mainly for entertainment purposes than academic work both male and female students use library mainly for entertainment purposes .Most students are reading less than one hour at home .Both male and female students do not use school library once a week. As suggestions, students should be informed academic blogs, web sites and other organized websites .Actions have to be taken to motivate the students to organize reading societies .More hours should be allocated for the library period.
