Item A cross-functional collaborative model for supplier evaluation for the sustainability of a firm(International Research Conference on Smart Computing and Systems Engineering - SCSE 2018, 2018) Jayarathne, K.; Wijayanayake, A.; Weerabahu, S.Business organizations have emphasized the importance of sustainability in their business processes. Sustainability of a firm can be measured on social, environmental and economic benefit indicators known as “triple bottom line”. Supplier selection process is one of the critical issues of sustainability activities faced by supply chain managers to maintain a strategically competitive position in the industry and supplier selection can significantly affect in achieving the triple bottom line. Given the current context, technological factors immensely affect the sustainability of a firm. Communication and web based systems related technology is a vital factor to build sustainable supply chain relationships. Thus, technological aspects can be taken into consideration under different sustainable criteria for supplier selection, though it has not been considered yet as a major factor. Analytical Network Process (ANP) has been incorporated to compute the supplier evaluated score that was computed by each department against each supplier. Then an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) model has been used to integrate the judgments of the multiple decision-makers. This research addresses the supplier selection decisions by groups of experts, which improves the quality and accuracy of the decisions made. In this model, both subjective and objective factors related to supplier selection are incorporated in order to optimize the procurement process aligning to the sustainability of the firm.Item Determinants of successful implementation of Green Supply Chain Management: From literature review perspective(International Research Conference on Smart Computing and Systems Engineering - SCSE 2018, 2018) Thushanthani, T.; Rupasinghe, T.D.The purpose of this study is to identify the Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) best practices and explore the factors influencing the succesful adoption of green supply chain management practices. The authors have used a systematic review of literature approach to collate 27 articles ranging from automobile, beverages, construction, electrical, hospitality, power generating and, general industries. The findings are revealed under five categories namely; green procurement, green design, green packaging, green operations, green manufacturing and reverse logistics incorporating 48 critical success factors under five themes, namely; Organizational Commitment (OC), Knowledge Base (K), Operational Dynamics (OD) , Market Pressure (MP) and Exogenous (E).Item Applicability of virtual billing on smartphone based applications for paper waste reduction.(International Research Symposium on Pure and Applied Sciences, 2017 Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Dissanayake, C.; Peiris, P.; Senevirathne, D.; Wijesooriya, K.; Rupasinghe, T. D.; Liyanaarachchi, N.The reception of a printed bill has been in global use as the proof of a transaction. Originating as a handwritten bill, the transaction billing has evolved with the advent of printers and computers, and are now an indispensable part of Point – of – Sales systems (POS). However, with the rapid expansion of business entities as well as the increase of wants of consumers, conventional billing consumes large volumes of paper, even in an organizational basis. Most of the bills generated as such are immediately disposed after an initial inspection. Hence, the paper used for billing has a very short usable lifespan and the paper along with the ink become waste. With the rapid advent of the smartphone providing an internet connected handheld portable computational device for the public, proposition of an internet-based virtual billing system has become timely. Although previous studies have been carried out on implementing virtual billing systems, the potential of smartphone has not been utilized in the practical implementation of such systems. The overarching goal of this study is to reduce reliance on paper for billing work. This outcome of the study aims to develop a virtual or a paperless billing system, with interfaces for the storefront user and consumer user. This virtual bill will directly appear on the smartphone application, which uses an Android operating system. In addition to the reduction of paper usage, this approach will also help the customers keep track on the expenditure for a certain commodity per vendor over a particular time period without manually having to calculate the expenses. The outcomes of this research will evaluate the feasibility of practically implementing such a paperless billing system in the context of Sri Lankan business entities.Item Supply chain collaboration for sustainable Industry 4.0: A case study from the apparel industry.(International Research Symposium on Pure and Applied Sciences, 2017 Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Gamage, D. D.Due to the advancement of technology and the dominance of the consumer economy, it has become important for businesses to adopt sustainable practices and innovative technologies to boost productivity in their business processes. The purpose of such sustainable practices is in bringing in balance between the economic, social and environmental spheres of a business. The advancement of technology has brought the 4th industrial revolution to the world in which businesses around the world are integrating the use of cyber-physical systems for improved outcomes. There are studies conducted on the impact of Industry 4.0 applications on collaborative supply chains. The focus of this is study is to simulate the applications of Industry 4.0 in supply chain collaboration in driving sustainability in the apparel industry using NetLogo – a programmable modelling environment. It will use an existing framework of collaboration characteristics supported through Industry 4.0 application and will consider the behavior of supply chain agents under varying conditions of certain specified characteristics. It will study how information sharing, sense making, resource pooling, goal congruency, empowerment and cross functionality of the collaborative supply chain impact on its sustainability in terms of carbon emissions with Life Cycle Assessment. This study shows that improved levels of collaboration through Industry 4.0 applications have a positive effect in reducing the carbon footprint of the supply chain of the apparel industry.Item Coastal water body database to monitor the water quality and land use changes from remote sensing data(Remote Sensing Society of Japan (RSSJ), 2012) Dahanayaka, D.D.G.L.; Tonooka, H.; Wijeyaratne, M.J.S.; Minato, A.; Ozawa, S.Item Development of coastal water body database on KISSEL server(IEEE, 2012) Dahanayaka, D.D.G.L.; Tonooka, H.; Wijeyaratne, M.J.S.; Minato, A.; Ozawa, S.Monitoring of coastal water bodies in all the relevant aspects was highly important for the sustainable use of those. To achieve this all the research findings should be easy access and presenting those in a user friendly manner will be more advantage. In Sri Lanka, there was not fully or never developed database on research findings especially on coastal water bodies. Thus we developed a Sri Lankan coastal water body database (CWBDS) on KISSEL server system which can be benefitted all the interest communities including general public. Presently it include water quality data over two decades of lagoons and estuaries and in near future it will update with support from universities and research organizations including research on biodiversity, fisheries, land use, socio economics, topography, water circulation, pollution etc.
