Item FACTORS AFFECTING INTENTION TO MIGRATE OF EXECUTIVES IN THE APPAREL INDUSTRY IN SRI LANKA(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2025) De Silva, H.P.D.T.; Gamage, P. N.Earnings from exports and the provision of employment opportunities make the apparel industry in Sri Lanka one of the most important industries in terms of its contribution to the nation’s economy. Still, the percentage of executives willing to migrate has been on the rise due to economic, workload and even career-oriented factors. This study aims to investigate the underlying factors that lead to the willingness to migrate among executives in the apparel sector of Sri Lanka. A quantitative and cross-sectional sample survey was used, and a questionnaire was sent to 165 executives of the organizations. The results were analyzed employing SPSS to compute correlation and regression analysis. The analysis revealed that migration intentions had a significant relationship with job satisfaction, organizational culture, organizational support, career development, compensation, economic conditions and political instability. Research results show that attention needs to be paid to intervention measures that prevent migration, including developing a good organization of the political and economic problems and developing more career opportunities. This research can also serve as a useful contribution for policymakers and industry owners on how best to devise policies designed to deal with migration determinants to improve executive retention and ensure the competitiveness and expansion of the sector.Item The Impact of Green Human Resource Management towards the Career Development of Employees: A Study of Frontline Employees in the Hotel Industry Sri Lanka(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Upamali, D. P. F.; Dharshani, R. K. N. D.This study investigates the impact of green human resource management on career development of the employees of the Hotel and Tourism Industry in Sri Lanka. Data were collected from the randomly selected Green Hotels’ front line employees in Matale and Dambulla areas in Sri Lanka using a questionnaire. A quantitative methods were used to analyze data. The results revealed that there is a positive moderate impact of Green HRM on career development of front line employees. There are many other factors which can affect the career development of employees such as personality, education, culture and job performance. This study also sought to determine the Green HRM practices of the hotel and tourism industry in Sri Lanka. K. A.; Welmilla, I.The study pursued to examine the impact of family responsibilities on women’s career development of private sector staff of Gampaha District, Sri Lanka. The research serves the direction for the women of staff level to understand their own their family related responsibilities impact on their career development. Employers are advantageous through understanding behavior, objectives and related barriers of women in staff level and encourage to improving career development opportunity by hindering related barriers. A theoretical framework was developed based on the literature review. A survey design which was a quantitative research approach was used in this empirical study. Thus, the random sampling was applied to select the sample and the investigation was done in private sector companies in Gampaha district in Sri Lanka. The selected participants of this study was only female employees of staff level. Accordingly, fifty-two female staff level employees participated in the study. Survey strategy was followed in the study and a self-administered, anonymous, pre-tested questionnaire was used for data collection purpose. The SPSS application used to analyze the data. The hypothesis was tested using correlation analysis and regression analysis and it was possible to conclude that there is a negative impact on family responsibilities on women’s career development. Further, the study revealed family responsibilities as a barrier that influence on women’s career development. H. L. H.; De Alwis, C.This research focused to find out the impact of talent management on organizational performance in the apparel industry in Sri Lanka. In the current study it has been recognized major four areas under the talent management Such as Talent Attraction, Talent Retention, Learning and Development and Career Management. Research analysis aimed to find out those four independent variables has impact on organizational performance. A cross-sectional survey design was used and convenient sampling method was used to select the respondents from the apparel industry in Sri Lanka. Population of the study was 350 apparel manufacturing organizations in Sri Lanka. Out of them 40organizations responses picked as the sample of the study. The convenience sampling method was used to select the sampling units. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire that created by Lyria (2014).The data was analyzed using correlation and regression analysis. It is found that talent retention and learning and development had demonstrated that those affected on organizational performance. However, there was not significant impact of learning and development on organizational performance in current field. And other two independent variables: career management and talent attraction had positive relationship with organizational performance although it is not significant. The results of the study implied that HR professionals of Sri Lankan apparel industry highly emphasize on talent retention to increase the organizational performance. This research may be a reflection of the development in the apparel industry and human resource strategy makers who try to come up with talent management concept.Item Impact of High Commitment Human Resource Management Practices on Employee Engagement: Evidence from Private and State Commercial Banks of Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Patrick, A.V.; Gamage, P.N.This study explores the impact of High Commitment Human Resource Management Practices on Employee Engagement in selected state and private commercial banks in Sri Lanka. The main objective of this study is to identify the relationship between High Commitment HR practices such as Performance Appraisal, Compensation, Career Development and Employee Engagement in the selected state and private commercial banks of Sri Lanka. The sample of this study includes two private commercial banks and two state commercial banks in Sri Lanka. A quantitative approach based survey in form of close ended structured Five Point Likert-scale questionnaires were used to obtain the responses from executive bank employees. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software version 20. In order to test the hypotheses of the study the correlation, regression analysis and multiple regression analysis were used. The statistical results of the study reveal that Performance Appraisal, Compensation and Career Development are significant predictors of Employee Engagement. The outcome of this study may help the policy makers in the banking sector to draft HR policies to improve their service towards better customer satisfaction and to gain competitive advantage which can drive the banks towards profitability and favorable business outcomes.
