Abstract

The study examines how Lucretius had used poetry in order to promote Epicurianism among Romans. But it also paves the way to critically analyze how poetry has highlighted some of the philosophical theories to the effect of painting a negative picture to the readers. The paper raises the question whether the effort encouraged or discouraged readers to take in the theory that he took efforts to popularize.ie, theory of Flux etc. Had the poet in Lucretius presented a morbid picture instead of encouraging readers tocomprehend the truth that the philosopher in him had tried to promote?
