Item Achieving Millennium Development Goals and statistical barriers in Sri Lanka(University of Kelaniya, 2006) Yatigammana, M.R.K.N.Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are now being a popular topic which gathered every nation towards a common set of goals. MDGs have been declared by UN as a benchmark and with a view to establish peace, security, development, human rights and fundamental freedom in every nation in the world by year 2015. Progress and the achievements of these goals by each country will be measured using around 26 indicators. This study examines the progress of Sri Lanaka towards achieving MDGs and to assess whether sufficient statistical data are collected by the responsible authorities to measure the achievements properly and promptly. To assess this, secondary data of various socio economic indicators were used, which also use by the UN to explain the progress and achievement of MDGs. Trend analysis was used as the statistical tool. It is envisaged that Sri Lanaka has a potential to achieve some of important MDGs by year 2015 if the trend continues as now. But most of the indicators are based on estimations and as a management point of view if a goal to be achieved there should be accurate indicators. Therefore the most controversial fact is that Sri Lankan institutions of health, education, local governments do not collect some essential data to have a better picture on whether Sri Lanaka will able to achieve MDGs as set by the UN by 2015. Moreover it is observed that there is no link between these institutions and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the Department of Census and Statistics. Therefore it is observed that there is a critical gap between collected data and required data to measure the progress and achievement of MDGs It is recommended that statistical authorities of Sri Lanaka should focus their attention towards collecting of vital information such as infant mortality rate, HIV/AIDS related statistics, contraceptive related statistics, sanitary related statistics, statistics on donor and ODA etc, since it has been identified as a main drawback today.Item An Analysis of E-Government Readiness of Sri Lankan Government Ministries(University of Kelaniya, 2007) Yatigammana, M.R.K.N.It is evident that, with the expansion of information technology and Internet facilities the vvhole world has boiled down to a one global village. Technological tools have made the task of creating expression through multimedia more easily available. Invariably this has altered the dynamics of interactions that have traditionally constituted educational ecology of the classroom. Sri Lankan higher education sector has slightly move towards student-centered (collaborative) elearning based around construction to increase equity of access to education, to improve teaching and learning, and to promote students and academic staff in student-centred and activity-based teaching and learning. In designing pedagogically sound interactive multimedia-based e-learning materials, a high premium needs to be placed on leveraging a judicious mix of various presentation modes to cater to user’s differing learning styles and needs. This will ensure that learning is optimized which is essentially student-centred in nature in multimedia rich learning environments. However, as identified by National E-Learning Resource Center (NELRC) at University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, most of public higher education institutes largely use face-to-face teaching while e-learning is used as a supplementary tool. There is a lack of understanding of developing technological and pedagogical sound interactive multimedia based e- learning materials which are current problem areas seeking attention. This study used qualitative methodology which made use of qualitative method such as content analysis. This includes three distinct approaches: conventional, directed, and summative. This study used conventional content analysis where coding categories are derived directly from the text data. Based on conventional content analysis of e-learning literature which published in 2010-2016 and retrieved from EBSCO database, the four-stage process i.e. Analysis, Design, Develop, and Delivery has been developed to be used in developing technological and pedagogical sound interactive multimedia based e-learning materials in the Sri Lankan higher education system. After understanding the requirement of developing e-learning materials, the identified process start with the analysis stage which include multiple stages i.e. analyze the needs, cost, content, market, technology, and delivery method and assessment strategies. Design, develop, and delivery stages can be then carried out which also include multiple steps. This process will be useful as a guide for any e-learning centers or any teaching and learning organization for developing interactive multimedia based e-learning materials.Item NelCon Studio: An e-learning Content Development / Playing platform for Blended Learning and Micro-learning(Solid State Technology, 2020) Yatigammana, M.R.K.N.; Wijayarathne, P.G.There is an increasing demand for e-learning during the outbreak of Covid-19. Thus, the educational institutions stress the teachers to use digital educational tools to develop the lessons and share them with the students. In a context like this, consideration should be given to minimize the issues related to connectivity, accessibility and internet pricing since they are directly related to anytime/anywhere education for all. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop an e-learning content development platform to address the above problems face by the users. Thus, the format of MP3 which has been the popular choice of Internet based music industry, is studied and revealed that it could not only carry audio, but also multiple images and text as well. This compliance with the learnativity content model where an MP3 lesson can be considered as a learning object consists with audio, images and texts. Consequently, the NeLCon Studio is developed with NeLCon creator and NeLCon Player which allows both the teacher and the student to develop lessons low volume files which allow students to work online as well as offline modes.Item The Factors Influencing the Undergraduates’ Digital Entrepreneurship Intention: With reference to Undergraduates of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies of the University of Kelaniya(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies University of Kelaniya., 2024-11-11) Nayomi, D.G.N.; Yatigammana, M.R.K.N.; Jayarathne, K.C.U.This study explores the key factors influencing undergraduates' intention to start a digital business, with special attention to undergraduates at the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies of the University of Kelaniya.
