Item 15 වන ශතවර්ෂයේ සිට 18 වන ශතවර්ෂය දක්වා ශ්රී ලංකාවේ සාම්ප්රදායික ඉඩම් භුක්ති ක්රමය පිළිබඳ විමර්ශනාත්මක අධ්යයනයක් (කෝට්ටේ සහ මහනුවර රාජධානිවලට විශේෂිතව)(2020) Kumara, M.A.P.Sri Lanka have had a unique and traditional system of land tenure from the beginning of the Anuradhapura Period until the fall of the Kandyan Kingdom in 1815. This system underwent certain changes from time to time, and during Kotte and Kandyan Periods there developed a system of land tenure with distinctive characteristics. This study would examine the traditional system of land tenure which existed during those two periods. The objective of the study is to identify the manner in which the system of land tenure functioned, the special features in Kotte and Kandyan Periods and to compare the systems of land tenure of those Periods. Further, when carrying out the study the socio-economic conditions which influenced the formation of such unique characteristics were also looked into. The study is based on the research question: whether the traditional land tenure systems of Kotte and Kandy were an extension of the system which existed in Sri Lanka during the pre-Kotte Period. Historical Methodology was applied for the research. Methods of library surveys, field work, and consultation of archival documents (Colombo and Kandy depositaries of the National Archives) were applied. It can be assumed that the systems of land tenure in Kotte and Kandy had unique characteristics and at the same time shared common features. Also, these systems were based not only on legal conditions but also depicted complex characteristics due to influence of economic and administrative background. Thus, it can be concluded that although they were an extension of the system existed in the pre-Kotte Period, the Kotte and Kandyan systems depicted a uniqueness too. (2010) Thennakoon, T.M.P.S.I.Item The acquisition of the English volitive and involitive alternations by Sri Lankan second language learners(2016) Wanasinghe, W.M.S.P.K.Research on second language acquisition has expanded enormously since its inception. The application of newer findings from the studies ofSLA to educational concerns has both informed and sustained long standing debates about the role of the learner's consciousness in the SLA process, and about the nature of the learner's input needs and requirements. This piece of research was focused on identifying volitive and involitive alternations used by Sri Lankan second language learners in English. In other words, study was aimed to see how Sri Lankan second language learners express their intentional and unintentional actions in English and their difficulty level in expressing volitive and invoiltive actions. Languages use a variety of strategies to encode the presence or absence of volition cross-linguistically. Most frequently, an intentional meaning is ascribed to volitive verbs and an unintentional meaning to involitive verbs. Sinhala verbs fall into two stem classes, the volitive and involitive. Subjects ofvolitives are almost invariably nominative and subjects ofinvolitives occur in nominative, accusative, dative, or the postpositional case "atilJ". Verbs of volition in English are not expressly marked and verbs of involition do not appear in English language as in Sinhala. Some languages handle this with affIXes, while others have complex structural consequences of volitional and involition encoding. Thus, Sri Lankan second language learners faces difficulties in expressing involitive actions in English. Alternations were found and questionnaires, interviews and test papers were used as tools. Four subject related professionals were interviewed. There were 252 students in the sample and they were given the test paper with difficulty level in proficiency judgments scale and the questionnaire. Participants were given 46 sentences to express in English and around 11000 sentences provided by participants were analyzed by the researcher. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used in analyzing data. At the end of analysis, there were only a few number of alternations provided by participants and it was proven that hypothesis made by the researcher is correct. Hence, this research would provide an insight in to recognizing and overcoming morpho-syntactic and morpho-semantic problems in enabling one to master second language.Item Alternative development strategies for sustainable development of central fragile area of Sri Lanka(2020) Samaratunge, D. S. N.The Central Fragile Area (CFA) is the most environmental sensitive region in Sri Lanka. It has huge strengths and potentials that can be utilized for future development of the country. The region is experiencing various development issues due to over exploitation of its resources over the years. This has created a mismatch between the environmental conservation and economic development in the region. Therefore, it needs to rearrange current spatial development patterns of the CFA. In line with these trends, this research carried out to develop a spatially integrated planning approach for sustainable development of the CFA. Accordingly, the research developed a spatially integrated environmental sensitivity index (SIESI) based on four case study areas namely Walapane, Ratnapura, Gangawatakorale and Kandy Four Gravets and Palindanuwara DSDs. A questionnaire survey carried out with 170 participants using the non probability sampling method to collected primary data. The SIESI included 11 variables 38 indicators that were identified based on the secondary data. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique, the inputs and ranking values from selected experts applied to assign weights for these variables and indicators. The results obtained using the ArcGIS Weighted Overlay Analysis. Results indicated five environmental sensitivity levels such as very high, high, moderate, low and very low in the case study areas of the CFA. Based on the environmental sensitivity levels, author proposed four spatial development areas; (1) conservation areas (2) conservation based agricultural areas (3) Agriculture based rural areas and (4) urban and rural settlement areas for case study areas. Author also proposed a set of viable development strategies such as establishment of protected area network, implementation of the national physical planning policy, integration of environmental conservation and economic development, mainstreaming disaster risk reduction and disaster resilient initiatives into development activities etc. to create a balanced development between the environmental conservation and the economic development in the CFA. This is the first attempt of developing a spatially integrated environmental sensitivity index to identify environmental sensitive levels in Sri Lanka. Research provides a scientific and acceptable planning tool for geographers, planners, academics, politicians, policy makers and developers to develop the CFA in a sustainable manner. It is possible to apply the developed SIESI to address similar environmental sensitivity fragile areas in other countries also.Item ANALYSIS AND EVOLUATION OF THE MUSIC IN THE SRI LANKAN PASSION PLAY:DUWA AS A CASE STUDY.(2014) Samarakoon, K.This thesis is titled "An Analysis and Evolution of the Music of thc Passion Plays of Sri Lanka: Duwa as a Case Study". Its focus is to study the musical compositions of the native Passion Plays enacted since the Portuguesc period with special attention paid to the Passion Play of Duwa; a small fishing village off I\'egombo. This thesis further analyzes the evolution of the musical compositions of the native Passion Plays enacted during the Portuguese. the Dutch and the British periods. In Chapter 5 it discusses where the Passion Plays (1'0.1'.1'0 l. a form of Liturgical Drama is said to have been performed in the Jesuit College of Colombo during the Portuguese period. Though the performance of the Catholic Passion Plays ceased during the early period of the Dutch rule due to persecution. with the arrival of the two Oratorian Indian missionaries; Fr. Joseph Vaz and Fr. Jacome Gonsalvez. there had been new innovations in the musical compositions of native Passion Plays. The novel musical compositions of Fr. Gonsalvez's is the key influence on the lusic of the Sri Lankan Passion Plays .whieh lasts for over four centuries within the country. His contribution and the music is discussed in chapter six. Finally in the British era. the evolution of the Passion Play takes a nationalistic turn towards a more localized production under Fr. Marcelline Jayakody. which results in a new idiom of Musical Christian worship. Thus it can be seen that two prominent figures. namely Fr. Gonsalvez and Fr. Jayakody has been influential in the evolution of the Passion Play music in Sri Lanka. Chapter seven discusses the aspects of Fr. Jayakody's compositions. 11 This research is oriented in examining the influences that molded and changed the authentic compositions of Fr. Jacome Gonsalvez as well as Fr. Marcelline Jayakody, and to what extent the Passion Play and its music has evolved. An analysis of the structures of the Passion Plays, the musical compositions, and comparisons form the core of this thesis. Individuals who worked closcly with Fr. Marcelline Jayakody in Jaffna (Mr. Ernest Mcintyre) and while producing the Duwa Passion Play (Mr. Clement Fernando) were also interviewed to get an in depth idea of Fr. Jayakody's thoughts and concepts in producing the play. Fr. G. Pilendran of Jaffna was interviewed to gain information on the Viyakula I'irisangam which is seminal for the composition of Fr. Gonsalvez original Passion Play. Subsequently Fr. Josephmary of Batticaloa and Fr. Saveri of Jaffna were interviewed as they personally direct Passion Plays in the two districts in later years. to observe how far the Passion Play has evolved in those areas since the early 1700's The authentic chants have been recorded as audio and video recordings to analyze and transcribe the authentic music of Jaffna, Mannar and Negombo. The music of the Duwa I'ass;on Play, and the Pasan and Lalon; of that area too has been recorded and transcribed. The thesis focuses on tracing the evolution of the Passion Play of over five centuries along with its music and to the idiom it has evolved to within the context of the Passion Play ofOuwa.Item Analysis and speciation of trace metals in wounds(1996) Liyanage, Janitha AbeywickremaItem An analysis of determinants of child mortality in the municipalities of Kano and Gombe areas of northern Nigeria(University of Kelaniya, 2014) Isa, H.A.Item Analysis of factors affecting the adoption of internet banking (IB) in Sri Lanka(2014) Premarathne, J.M.W.Item AN ANALYSIS OF SECOND LANGUAGE LEARNING DIFFICULTIES IN VISUALLY IMPAIRED CHILDREN IN NORTHERN REGION OF SRI LANKA(2019) Pushparajah, Vany. This study seeks to establish the state of second language (English) learning difficulties in children with visual impairments and make recommendations that could assist with special needs education in the country. The objectives of this study are to analyze the types of errors committed in second language learning, to analyze the teaching-learning difficulties in children with visual difficulties, analyze the personal-family-socio-political-economic factors that affect the learning, assess the extent of the learner-friendliness of the environments in which learners with visual impairments learn and to study the impact made by the use of Assistive Technology in the second language learning of visually impaired. This study was carried out in Northern Sri Lanka where children with visual impairments, their teachers and parents were the part of this study. 30 participants; including 25 students and 5 teachers took part in this study where both quantitative and qualitative data collection tools were utilized. Data collection consisted of surveys, classroom observations, and interviews with students and teachers, as well as with a close analysis of spoken and written samples of student works and available literature. Subsequently, a purposive sample was identified to participate in the second round of data collection where an interview protocol rooted in the literature was developed to act as a guide for the semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis of the data was carried out using aspects of framework analysis. The study concludes that the students with visual impairment of this region undergo several difficulties in their second language learning where their personal, socio, political and economic factors make a remarkable impact. Despite the difficulties, the students are very motivated to learn the second language, English, and they positively regard the use of Talking Software as an Assistive Technology in the language learning context.Item An analysis of social costs and benefits of paddy farming sector in Sri Lanka(2014) Nishantha, B.M.N.Item Analysis of Sri Lankan essential oils by gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy(1991) Paranagama, P.A.Item Analytical of elastic S-matrix element for realistic potentials with the Coulomb potential(2014) Jayasinghe, W.J.M.L.P.Item An analytical study of social reality depicted in the novels of Nagarjun(2014) Withana, B.N.Item Approaches to select suitable village reservoirs for the development of culture-based fisheries in Sri Lanka(2010) Wijenayaka, W.M.H.K.Item Architectural monuments of Polonnaruwa (Buddhists) : Vol. 1, Illustrations: Vol 2(1975) Basnayaka, H.T.
