    Analysing Sri Lankan Lifestyles with Data Mining: Two Case Studies of Education and Health

    There are no adequate researches in lifestyle data analysis of Sri Lanka. Existing works are not capable of handling big data systematically and, not efficient in disclosing the latent factors in lifestyles. This research has used predictive and descriptive mining techniques to analyse HIES dataset related to two cases in education and health using WEKA and SPSS. The design consists of a classification and a clustering task. Classification finds the factors and their relationships associated with no-schooling and dropouts. Clustering explores the relationship between chronic diseases and family income. Our analysis reveals the significance of child labor and religion among the influences such as age, district and parental education related to school dropout and no-schooling. Other case study discloses that citizens who have got low income comparatively suffer from many chronic diseases. The important patterns recognized through the research can be used by the government policy makers to setup policies.

    Job Satisfaction, Organizational Commitment and OCB: an Examination of Three Employees’ Behaviors in Unionized Work Context

    One of the characteristics of the industrial relation climate of Sri Lanka is that it has high unionized working environment. This high unionization of employees is claimed to affect number of behavioral factors associated with employees. Though the effect of unionization on organizations’ outcomes have been carried out, researches in this regard in Sri Lankan context are rare. This study is aimed at examining the effect of employees’ unionization on employees’ behaviors. The sample of this study is consisted of 380 public and private sector employees and it was drawn by using the stratified random sampling method. Data was collected by administering questionnaires. The data was analyzed with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). It was found that unionization has a negative effect on the work related behavior of employees. Further it was revealed that the negative effect of unionization is higher in the public sector than in the private sectors.

    Building Relations Between a Company and Consumers Through Cocreation: Polish and Chinese Context

    The paper consists of two parts, i.e. theoretical and practical. The theoretical deliberations are devoted to the explanation of supporting the process of product co-creation. The practical part of this paper reports the findings of a study concerning the interest of young people in participation in co-creation in Poland and China. The aim of the article is finding whether the Polish and Chinese Y generation client’s role understanding about the cocreation process and their feelings regarding the usefulness about the co-creation process. To gather primary data field survey method has been adopted with a structured questionnaire. The target group (population) of the survey was constituted by young people (generation Y) who, by virtue of their psycho-physical characteristics, are more prone to share their experience and engage in various activities. Percentage analysis has been applied to analysis the primary data. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that the potential interest in the participation in co-creation is high among both groups of respondents (the Poles 56%, the Chinese 90%).

    Impact of Celebrity Endorsement on Consumer Buying Behaviour in Beauty soap Industry (With Special Reference to the Consumers in North Central Province in Sri Lanka)

    All of us are consumers. We consume various product and services to fulfil our daily requirements and every time we have to decide what we buy, how we buy, where and when we buy. There are a large number of factors, which influence consumer buying behaviour. But today the firms and marketers are using celebrity endorsement as a major marketing strategy to affect the consumer buying behaviour. Researcher has been taken celebrity endorsement, attractiveness, expertise and the trust worth to measure whether those factors affect for the consumer buying behaviour or not. Hence the purpose of this research is to study the impact of celebrity endorsement on consumers buying behaviour. Furthermore, this study focuses on examining the perception of consumers about celebrity endorsements, examining the celebrity attributes likely to influence consumer purchase intentions and finally the impact of celebrity endorsements on their Consumer Buying Behaviour. The researcher has identified that there is a huge effect on celebrity endorsement towards the consumer buying behaviour while celebrity trustworthiness, expertise and attractiveness has a positive impact on consumer buying behaviour. Today most of the marketers use celebrity endorsement as a strategy to promote their bands therefore, through this research the researcher’s scope is to understand the consumers mind set towards the FMCG sector due to celebrity endorsement.

    The Impact of Leverage on Real Earnings Management: Evidences from Listed Manufacturing Companies in Colombo Stock Exchange

    The amount of funds a company has earned during a given period is generally reported based on appropriate and relevant accounting standards. Therefore, reported earnings helps to quantity the company's performance through earnings, nevertheless investors should consider not just earnings quantity, but also the quality of earnings, in evaluating a company's accounting earnings. The primary aim of this study is to examine the impact of Leverage on Real Earnings Management activities. The study was conducted using manufacturing companies listed in Colombo Stock Exchange with firm-quarter observations for the period of 2010 to 2015 using a panel data analysis. The results indicated that manufacturing companies are having abnormal cash flows and production cost in their operations and there is a significant positive impact of leverage on real earnings management in listed manufacturing companies in Colombo Stock Exchange, which in turn could effects the earnings quality of the companies.

    Ramayana Trail as a Cultural Tourism Product in Sri Lanka: New Paradigm for Destination Marketing

    Tourism could consider as the most booming sector in service economy where the novel paradigms popular among tourism destination that leads for huge competition. Ramayana Trail is an untapped market, which symbolizes eminent synthesis of Sri Lankan and Indian cultural values. Ramayana Trail is featured novelty nature in tourism industry which was recognized by the least and crucial to promote as more than fifty sites were located in Sri Lanka with the ability to influence tourists for diversified experiences. The objective of the study to identify the potentiality to promote of Ramayana Trail as a cultural tourism product with special reference to Uva and central province through the investigation of tourist‘s profile, existing awareness and destination attributes. Sample size is 120 tourists and for data collection semi structured questionnaire and interview method were adopted. Findings reveal that the existing level of awareness is low among foreign tourists. Comparably Indian tourists are aware about the legend but not for the Ramayana sites. Attraction has been identified as the most significance destination attributes and promotion of Ramayana trail as a cultural tourism product has been recommended through government intervention and websites, blogs and social media marketing tools.
