Item Good Practice of Reshaping a School Library: with Special Reference to Vidyartha Navodya Maha Vidyalaya, Pahalamaragawewa in Anuradapur(3rd International Conference on Library and Information Management, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Harshani, K.R.N.; Siriwardana, A.S.This article seeks out to bring to light some of the huge achievements, best practices in reshaping school library through creative initiatives. The school library is fundamental to the learning and teaching development. A library is a significant source of knowledge to students in schools. In this research mainly focused on reshape present library in Vidyartha Navodya Maha Vidyalaya. Case study was adopted for this study. This paper details how one school transformed its school library, making it a central place for reading within the school. Data collected provided evidence of the kinds of strategies, programmes and design that works to encourage reading skills. In this research mainly focused on designing attractive spaces for reading environment. Researchers had a typical planning cycle to implement and set up this library efficiency, effective and creative manner namely assessing needs, planning improvement of library get their achievement, with that help of principle, librarian, prefect of schools (grade 6-12) with teachers of school library. Best practices included workshop with staff training, and activity basis ideas. Setting up a library is also a great challenge. It is necessary to recommend that work closely with many other people at in school. In this way the library will belongs to everyone at the school and can be made to benefit many generations of students. Library delivers a student with necessary additional material and extra reading. It progresses the important habit of reading between the students and school library shows a great part in the life of students by helping as the store house of knowledge. Today’s school librarians must effort harder than ever to demonstrate their value to educators, students, administrators. Consequently, the role of encouragement in school librarianship is serious. This paper provides a brief idea the way of school library have transformed, identifies some of the challenges school librarians face, and suggestions one best practice that can support school librarians advocate for themselves and for efficient and effective school library arrangement. This research shows that the more successful outcomes happened in schools where the entire creative process between school children and member teachers of project team. The School is the place that provides knowledge for the children in a country. The primary objective of the school is to make a knowledgeable society to the country. The information literacy can be given as one important concept for this. Accordingly, skill on information literacy for exploring information for student’s academic purposes and other purpose is timely needed. Therefore, the level of information literacy on rural school are less than urban schools in present context. The purpose of this study is to explore the literacy skills of the secondary school children and to identify the reasons for their lack of knowledge in information literacy. The sample was obtained from a random sample from 10 secondary schools in grade 10 to grade 11 in the Rambewa educational division in the Anuradhapura district. The random sampling method was used. A questionnaire was designed and collected the data using this tool. The study demonstrated that children’s literacy rate in rural areas are comparatively low in terms of literacy rate in schoolchildren of urban areas. The main reason for this was the scarcity of resources. Such as lack of library facilities and lack of knowledge on information, literacy of both teachers and students also found through the study.Item Teacher as a School Librarian: a Study of School libraries’ in Thabuththegama Educational Zone of Anuradhapura District, Sri Lanka.(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya,Sri Lanka., 2017) Wanasinghe, W.M.P.G.K.T.School teachers are working as school librarians in the Sri Lankan context .This paper focused to identify current state of the school libraries and to identify the teacher’s role as a librarian in the schools of Thabuththegama Educational Zone. According to the IFLA school library guidelines (June, 2015)there are commonly identified qualifications for professional school librarians. Few researches done with school librarians’ role at the institution level .But in the Sri Lankan context there were various school library development projects, seminars, workshops done by national and international level. According to Wickramanayake (2015), the majority of school libraries in Sri Lanka are run by less qualified school librarians with no professional librarianship. Questionnaire based survey method was used to gather data. Forty six school librarianswereresponded and the rate of response is 100%. According to the analytical results, there was 17% of libraries did not have separate library building and they use small room as a library. Then, there was 83% libraries had a separate building for library. Only 17% was school librarians position and 7% teachers assigned for libraries.2% was office assistant and 2% was Library assistants. Seventy two percent of teachers(72%) were assigned to library with teaching another subject.85% school library teachers had an experience and they would like to develop school libraries. No school librarian’s appointment receives to the area. School Principal assigned a teacher to look after the library volunteer. Findings of the study was educational authorities should create school library position and recruit accordingly and decision should be taken to appoint separate qualified teacher for the school library fulltime and trained them. Libraryservices board North Central Province help to build up school libraries with organizing workshop, seminars,training sessions and Readingcamp for students from 2015.
