Item A Philosophical analysis of the Upaniṣadic teaching to build a moral society in the present(International Conference on Sanskrit and Eastern Studies, 2018 Department of Sanskrit and Eastern Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Jayapala, I.D.Upaniṣad teaching among Eastern philosophical teachings is a major consideration because the basis of the entire oriental philosophy has emerged from the Upaniṣad philosophy. Many of its teachings are of much more value today. The main purpose of this research is to make use of the moral teaching of Sub-scholarship based on such a basis for modern social systems? If so, look at it. For this purpose, the books on the Venerable vision were examined and most of them examined how the ethical teaching was related to it. By the way, ethics and moral teaching were examined in the books on modern teachings, and many of them seem to indicate the basic points of interest in the teaching of Upaniṣad. The general teaching of the Upanishad is to get one-way. The teaching of Upanishad that the world originates from one person called ‘’íśwara’’. They have pointed out that the man who was born as an organism should get to his own soul, and he must return to ‘’íśwara’’ . According to the Upanishad philosophers, it is man's ideal for understanding the lives of the souls to gain emotion and self-esteem. They are parallels to the sun, and so does the sun, through the unity of the sun, so that man and the worldly paradise should be exempted from the ideal paradise. Because of this reason, he has also developed the teachings of Ethics in the same way as their own philosophical values. The goal of Upanishad is build up self-extermination. It is taught in the subgenus of subjugation, lust, desire, and humility to tackle the moral life of mankind. It teaches that a person must have the capacity to live with a real understanding of his senses. Upanishad ethical teaching has taught that one who does not understand is behaving again and again in the face without immortality. It can be argued that many of the social problems that are being raised in the present system of society are largely due to the lack of understanding of man in man. Upanishad teaches that the person who makes a life of discernment is the life of a unselfish devotion to the world. Sub-genre philosophers who claim that man is not a satisfying social life have been described as unsatisfactory because they are gradually destroying man. This is directly affecting the present method. The unsatisfactory man has today translated into major social issues with the problems that arise when he meets his limitless needs and needs. In the teaching of Upanishad, it is stated that man should not be loved by selfish feeling except the whole society. According to the teachings of the Sub-Quran, man who is a successful personality who has been successful in achieving a moral code is going to the Supreme ‘’ íśwara’’ as well as the use of these teachings to build up the society, there are many solutions that can be found in today's human societyItem Buddhist Attitudes on the Ethical Values in Linguistic Communication.(The Third International Conference on Linguistics in Sri Lanka, ICLSL 2017. Department of Linguistics, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Dhammanisanthi Thero, EkalaLanguage is one of the most valuable tools ever produced by humans for the communication of thoughts through verbal medium to have a good comprehension about its ethical background. The piece of knowledge conveyed through the communication depends on the ethical value of the expression. This study investigates the Buddha‟s attitude towards the language and meritorious value of the usage of the language. The language expertise of the Buddha is depicted in Pāli canon. Similarly, his skills of usage of language are analyzed in Brahma in eight stages. Preserving the quality of the language and the need of a successful communicative process is prominent. The statement given to the first sixty Arhant can be shown as a unique instance where the ethical value of verbal communication is mentioned. The meritorious skill of the communication has been exposed by giving prominence to the sentiment of sound and sentiment of sense. Moreover, as depicted, the quality depends on the truthfulness of the meaning. Eight factors regarding verbal communication are given in the Abhayarājakumārasutta of the Majjhimanikāya. It mentions that it is important to use words that are truthful and not to make any affliction to others. Truth and meaning are more important than the quality of sound. This study is conducted on selected studies in the Aṅguttaranikṅāya and some verses of the Dammapada, while providing relevance commentary, sub commentary and critical attention on the modern scholastic ideas on the subject.Item A Study of the Possibilities and Limits(Drama & Theatre and Image Arts Unit, Department of Fine Arts, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Suraweera, A.In this paper, I will discuss the ethical problems related to employing photo manipulation in photojournalism Using data from news media. Like all professional fields, photojournalism has its own standard of ethics. Every publication has to follow a set of rules (Bersak, 2006). Photojournalism is different from any other area of photography. Photojournalists contribute photos to the news media so the photos should be impartial and honest. Otherwise, photographs may lead to massive problems. The digital composite of a British soldier in Basra photographed by Brian Walski is a very clear example of how the manipulation of photographs and footage in documentries can lead to problems (Flybring, 2009). In this paper, I argue that photographs and footage in documentaries should never be manipulated. Photojournalists are reporting what they can see. The use of modification tools like cropping, scar reduction and color reversal can change the abate and follow of an article or graphic design. Over-manipulation or distortions have to be legally prohibited in photojournalism because; viewers have a right to know the truth. In the early stage of photography, the photograph meant being able to capture the world as we see it through speed In 1860, president Abraham Lincoln’s Head was grafted onto John Calhoun’s portrait This was the first example of photo Manipulation. In the digital era, photo manipulation is treated as creative art. However, in photojournalism it can have a negative impact on society.Item Ethics and the environment: Cultural metaphysics and cross-cultural dialogue(Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Barborich, A.L.Our environment is saturated in the English language and “western” culture due to globalisation. However, the accompanying western philosophical concepts can be contested, even resisted, in different cultural contexts. The philosophical ideas associated with the Anglosphere are rooted in the cultural, economic, religious and social traditions of broader Anglo-European, or western culture and are decontested ideologically within that culture. The contestation of western ideology is beneficial for global culture, but this aspect of cross-cultural dialogue is often neglected in South Asia where English language learning and other development strategies result in the internalisation of Anglo-European culture and norms. This study contrasts the philosophical underpinnings of ethics and relations to the environment in South Asia and the west. The frameworks underlying these systems of thought are more profound than cultural hegemony or even philosophical world view, instead consisting of entirely different cultural metaphysics. These profound differences can result in conceptual misunderstandings that can only be resolved by dialogue, both internal and external. The aim of this study is to examine ethical and environmental theories from both perspectives and show how this cross-cultural dialogue can allow for uniquely South Asian solutions to environmental problems.
