Item The Impact of Quality of Occupational Health and Safety Practices on Job Performance among Operational Level Employees in Maritime Industry(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies University of Kelaniya., 2024-11-11) Devanga, R. M.The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of the quality of occupational health and safety practices on job performance among operational level employees in the maritime industry. Extensive studies have been conducted on quality of occupational health and safety practices and job performance in the construction and hospital industries. However, there is limited research focus on the maritime industry. This research was conducted using a survey research methodology. Questionnaire was developed under standard measurement scales. The 135 selected sample was drawn from population using a simple random sampling technique. The collected data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis method. According to the output, the alternative hypothesis was tested and the result shows that the quality of occupational health and safety practices has a positive effect on job performance. Also, the level of quality of occupational health and safety practices and the level of job performance were moderate in the maritime industry. To overcome the limitations, future researchers can work on different type of employees including managers with the same theme, can examine other factors affecting job performance and increase the generalizability.Item Effects of Health and Safety Measures on Job Performance of Technical Staff: With Reference to Port Industry in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Perera, P.S.W.; Rajapaksha, U.G.In a work environment where Employee Health and Safety and Organizational Profit Maximization is highly prioritized, it is of high importance to identify and understand the effects Health and Safety Measures have on Job Performance. Thus this study addresses to understand the effects of Health and Safety Measures on Job Performance of Technical Staff focusing Port Industry in Sri Lanka. Primary data were collected through a questionnaire from a sample of 100 technical employees and from a semi-structured interview with a safety officer. Since the study comprised of a mix approach, statistical estimation of quantitative components of the collected data were done by ordinal regression logit model using SPSS (version 22) software while qualitative components were analyzed using thematic approach. The quantitative analysis revealed a positive and a significant relationship between health and safety measures and Job performance of technical staff and the qualitative analysis further supported the quantitative research findings leading to the conclusion that there is a positive impact of health and safety measures on job performance.Item Impact of Job Satisfaction on Job Performance of Non-Executive Employees in Hotel Industry: With Special Reference to Kalutara District, Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Perera, M.D.S.H.; Weerakkody, W.A.S.Currently all organizations recognize that they can gain competitive advantage in the market place only if these organizations have employees who possess positive work related attitudes. Job satisfaction is one of the most important attitudinal factors on job performance. This study measured the impact of job satisfaction on job performance of non-executive employees in the hotel industry (star hotels) in the Kalutara district, Sri Lanka. On the scenario of continuous discussions on challenges faced by hotel industry in Sri Lanka, human involvement is yet to be considered as a significant organizational factor. There are several human resource glitches in hotel industry. It has made a vast impediment to minimize the effort of achieving organizational objectives in the hotel industry. The data were collected from a stratified randomly selected sample of 250 non -executive employees in the hotel industry (star hotels) by administrating a structured questionnaire, which consisted of 38 questions/statements along a 5 points scale. The data analyses consist of correlation and regression. Findings reveal that, job satisfaction was correlated with job performance of non-executive employees. Also there was an impact of job satisfaction on job performance of non-executive employees. Based on the findings valuable suggestions are provided to the managements of hotel industry in the Kalutara district, Sri Lanka to minimize the existing issues.Item Impact of Attitudinal Factors on Job Performance of Non-Executive Employees in Hotel Industry: With Reference to Kalutara District(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2015) Perera, M.D.S.H.; Weerakkody, W.A.S.Nowadays all organizations have recognized the notion that the fact that an organization can gain competitive advantage in market place only if it has employees who possess positive work related attitudes. The study was made to measure the impact of attitudinal factors on job performance of non-executive employees in hotel industry (star hotels) in Kalutara district, Sri Lanka. On the scenario of continuous discussions on challenges faced by hotel industry in Sri Lanka, human involvement is yet to be considered as a significant organizational element. There are several human resources problems in hotel industry. Some going abroad for high salaries, lack of skillful employees in the hotel industry etc., which have made a huge obstruction to minimize the effort of the achieving organizational objectives in the hotel industry. All the positions (designations) in non- executive employee category of human resources have a significant role to play in maintaining the highest labor productivity in this sector. However the available literature does not provide enough empirical evidence with regard to the impact of attitudinal factors on job performance of non-executive employees in hotel industry (star hotels) in Kalutara district, Sri Lanka. Therefore, this study empirically investigated three attitudinal variables, which could influence on the job performance of the non-executive employees in the hotel industry. The data were collected from a stratified randomly selected sample of 100 non -executive employees in the hotel industry (star hotels) in Kalutara district Sri Lanka by administrating a structured questionnaire, which consisted of 61 questions/statements with 5 points scale. The data analyses included Correlation, Multiple Regression and Simple Regression analyses. According to the findings of the study, job satisfaction and organizational commitment were correlated with job performance of non-executive employees but job involvement was not correlated with job performance of non-executive employees in this sector. There was an impact of job satisfaction and organizational commitment on job performance of non-executive employees but job involvement was not impact on job performance of non-executive employees in hotel industry in Kalutara district, Sri Lanka. Especially job satisfaction and organizational commitment should be considered to enhance the performance of non-executive employees in this industry as an attitudinal factors. Based on the findings valuable suggestions were provided to the managements of hotel industry in Kalutara district Sri Lanka to achieve sustainable competitive advantage through people.Item Empirical Study for Personality and Job Performance of Middle Managerial Level Employees in the Public Commercial Banking Sector in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2015) Jayamanna, D.A.C.M.; Wanigasekara, W.M.S.K.Personality is a significant factor which affects job performance of employees according to many previous studies. Hence, the main objective of this study was to examine the relationship between personality and job performance of public commercial banking sector employees using middle managerial level employees as the sample. Personality was measured using the big five dimensions namely extraversion, neuroticism, openness, conscientiousness and openness while job performance was measured through task & contextual performance and counterproductive work behavior. The results of the study was mainly analyzed using correlation and regression analysis and the findings confirmed that personality was a valid predictor which had a statistically significant, strong positive relationship with job performance. Moreover, each big five dimension had a statistically significant moderate positive relationship with job performance. Hence, this study provides new insights to the management of the banking sector indicating that personality should be given due consideration in human resource management practices in their organizations.
