Item Effect of Gender Discrimination on Employee Performance: Mediating Role of Occupational Stress: A Study of Executive Level Employees in the Banking Sector of Sri Lanka(Dilrukshi, U.N., Ranasinghe, V. R.Even though there are many determinants of the employee performance mentioned in the extend literature, gender discrimination effects on employee performance has not been studied in the Sri Lankan banking sector yet. Discrimination among employees has become an important issue in the current organizations. Bridging this gap in the context, the current study assessed the impact of gender discrimination on employee performance and assessed the mediating role of the occupational stress in the branches of people's bank in Rathnapura district. The current study was conducted as a crosssectional, field study among a sample of eighty executives in the bank following the simple random sampling technique. Primary data was collected through a standard questionnaire distributed via the online platform. The collected data were analyzed with the support of the SPSS employing correlation, regression, and descriptive statistics. It is found that there is a negative impact of gender discrimination on employee performance with mediating occupational stress. According to the results of the study there was a positive relationships between hiring, promotion and wage gender discriminations with occupational stress, as well as a negative relationship between occupational stress and employee performance. Hence it is recommended to all HR managers in the organizations to maintain gender equality within the organization, which in turn, will affect their performance.Item Impact of Job Crafting, Work Stress on Employee Engagement: A Study of a Leading IT Organization in Sri Lanka(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) Anushantha, W.D.F.; Ranasinghe, V.R.Although the theoretical background and job crafting outcomes are well documented, previous studies have found the IT industry employees are suffering from huge work stress where there is a lack of theoretical contribution regarding the work engagement of employees in the IT industry. Thereby, the current study attempts to identify the impact of job crafting on work engagement by exploring the mediating effect of work stress in between the relationship of job crafting and work engagement of employees in the IT industry of Sri Lanka. The simple random sampling technique was applied to select the sample, and the sample size has consisted of 335 employees of Virtusa (Pvt) Ltd, Sri Lanka. Data was collected through a Google Form. The data were analyzed by using the correlation, regression, and Sobel test where most of the analyses are done with the aid of SPSS. It is found that, there is a significant positive moderate impact of job crafting on work engagement. Further, this study recognized that there is a significant week negative relationship between job crafting and work stress and also in between work stress and work engagement. Additionally, this study has revealed that work stress significantly mediates the relationship between job crafting and work engagement while behaving as a partial mediator. Finally, it is concluded that the IT organizations can reduce their employees’ work stress by successfully implementing the job crafting concept within their organization where it will directly affect the employee engagement to improve further. It is suggested that managers should create a supportive environment where employees can interact and add more valuable tasks to their daily responsibilities. Further, the government of Sri Lanka can implement job crafting concept successfully in their public sector. It is better if the future researchers can use the longitudinal study and go for a bigger sample size to make their future research on the same area to be a more successful one.Item Impact of Employee Work-Life Balance on Employee Job Retention: A Study of a Leading Apparel Company in Sri Lanka(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) Bandara, E.M.S.C.; Ranasinghe, V.R.The study examined the relationship between the work-life balance on employee retention in Hirdaramani Mihila Agalawaththa (PVT) Ltd. Employee work-life balance is the dependent variable in this study and employee retention is the independent variable of this study. Accordingly, the main objective of this study was to identify the relationship between employee work-life balance and employee job retention. 179 operational level employees were selected as a sample based on the simple random sampling method. The researcher used primary data for the data collection. The collected quantitative data were analyzed through SPSS using descriptive analysis techniques. The study suggested that; there is a positive relationship between employee work-life balance and employee job retention. A moderate positive correlation is found between the work-life balance and employee job retention (r=0.443) which is statically significant (Sig. 0.000) is less than the level of significance (0.01). According to the results, 19.6% (R Square = 0.196) of the variation of employee work-life balance could be significantly (Sig. = 0.000 which is less than 0.05) explained by the independent construct in the research model in employee job retention. Further, the marginal contribution of employee retention (0.595) in determining the effect on work-life balance is to be considered statically significant (Sig. = 0.000) in the regression equation. According to the regression results, there is a significant impact of work-life balance on employee job retention. The results of this study can be used by various parties such as apparel companies, apparel sector employees and future researchers.Item Impact of Reward System on Employee Motivation(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) Hansika, V.A.K.K.; Mahalekamge, W.G.S.The reward is a valuable part of inspiring positive behaviors and cementing values in the organization. These rewards are the most essential thing for every organization, and reward is a huge part of motivating, retaining, and attracting employees. This study examined the impact of rewards on employee motivation in a leading organization in the wholesale and retail industry in Sri Lanka. Based on empirical evidence, there was a research gap of the impact of rewards on employee motivation in the wholesale and retail sector. Furthermore, based on literature findings, pay and benefits were considered financial rewards, and recognition, responsibility, and working environment were considered non-financial rewards. The sample size of the study was 82 the operational level employees in the leading organization in wholesale and retail industry. Simple random sampling was used to select the sample from the population. A standard questionnaire was used to collect data from the sample, which consists of questions based on the five-point-Likert Scale. The findings revealed that there is a significant positive impact of financial rewards and non-financial rewards on employee motivation, and there is a significant positive impact of reward systems on employee motivation. Based on those results, the study has provided some recommendations along with managerial implications for future developments.Item Impact of Personality Traits on Employee Job Performance(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) Yasodhara, T.L.; Mahalekamge, W.G.S.The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of personality traits on employee job performance of the selected leading bank in Sri Lanka. This study is carried out as a quantitative explanatory research work. Further, the sample was selected using simple random sampling technique. This was a cross sectional study and standard questionnaire was used to collect primary data through a survey. Questionnaires were distributed to a sample of 152 of bank staff who are currently working in a leading bank in Sri Lanka. To analyze received questionnaires data, SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) was used. To interpret data analyzed and to obtain the results graphical charts, descriptive statistical techniques such as mean, standard deviation, skewness, kurtosis and also histograms, correlation and coefficient, simple regression analysis and residual analysis were used. To test the relationship between variables, Pearson correlation analysis was used. Simple regression analysis was used to identify the degree of the impact of the independent variable on dependent variable. Further, results revealed that extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness and openness to experience has positive and significant impact on job performance of employees while neuroticism statistically proved that there is no significant impact on employee job performance. The present study would provide the directions for theoretically and practically for the relevant parties in banking industry. Moreover, this study would provide the direction to HR policy makers, managers, supervisors and to future researchers.Item Impact of Knowledge Management Infrastructure Capabilities on Knowledge Sharing Intention(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) Wickramasinghe, N.D.; Mahalekamge, W.G.S.The current study is initiated to bridge the gap in the extant literature by assessing the impact of knowledge management infrastructure capabilities on knowledge sharing intention of executive and above level employees in a leading organization in the banking and finance industry. The study is quantitative and a cross-sectional design is followed. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire. A simple random sampling technique was applied to select the sample, and the final sample consisted of 135 knowledge workers from one leading organization in the Finance industry in Sri Lanka. The data was analyzed through regression and correlation with the aid of SPSS. Descriptive statistical techniques such as mean, standard deviation, and frequency tables were used to interpret the analyzed data. Pearson correlation was used to analyze the relationship between variables while simple regression was used to identify the extent of impact of independent variable on the dependent variable. It was found that there is a significant positive impact of knowledge infrastructure on knowledge sharing intention. It is suggested that managers deploy their resources in crafting a knowledge organization emphasizing the found knowledge sharing attributes in the study while it is high time for policymakers to execute valuable policy options such as phased retirements. Cross-validation of the study findings in diverse industries and cultures among relatively a bigger sample in successive studies is recommended, which will add more insights to the essence of the current study.Item Impact of Work-Life Balance on Employee Psychological Well-Being(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) Weeraman, A.S.D.; Mahalekamge, W.G.S.Work-life balance is one of the challenges facing many business organizations today. For many organizations, work-life balance has become a concern because the WorkLife Balance hits positively in various ways for the company. This study aimed to identify the impact of work-life balance on psychological well-being in a leading apparel organization in Sri Lanka. Simple random sampling was used to select the sample from the population. The Standard questionnaire was used to collect data from a sample of 118 to executive and above level employees in a leading apparel organization in Sri Lanka. Regression and Correlation analysis was performed using SPSS version 23.0 to test the research hypothesis of the study. The findings revealed that a significant positive impact of work-life balance, work interference with personal life, personal life interference with work and work/personal life enhancement on the psychological well-being of executive and above level employees in a leading apparel organization in Sri Lanka. This study also helped expand the understanding of the impact of work-life balance on psychological well-being in the apparel sector. Further, it is expected that the current study model will benefit several other apparel organizations in designing their work-life balance.Item Determinants of Freelancing Intention of Undergraduates: Evidence from Universities in Western Province of Sri Lanka(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) Viduranga, J.G.L.S.; Jayarathna, S.M.D.Y.Freelance career model is considered one of the most trending careers worldwide in the 21st century. Freelancing is a more viable option for the country like Sri Lanka because it generates more jobs and have a potential to eliminate the youth generation's unemployment rate. However, there are not enough studies that were conducted on this model in the Sri Lankan context. Thus, the present study focuses on identifying the impact of critical determinates for freelancing on the freelance intention of undergraduates in Sri Lanka. A questionnaire was developed from standard measures and distributed using a google form. Data were collected from 139 undergraduates from eight universities in Sri Lanka. The study revealed that income level, the flexible time factor, ability to outsource has a positive impact on freelance intention while government support and soft skill development has a negative impact on freelance intention. The finding of the study serves as a guideline for policymakers of the country. It is recommended that they have taken the necessary action to motivate freelancing and amend laws and regulations that can generate positive stimulate for the freelancing in the country.Item Impact of Work Overload, Role Ambiguity and Role Conflict on Workplace Incivility: Study of Executive Level Employees in the Government Commercial Banks in Colombo District(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) Sriyani, S.C.; Jayarathna, S.M.D.Y.The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of work overload, role ambiguity and role conflict on workplace incivility in government commercial banks in Colombo district in Sri Lanka. This study was carried out as a quantitative explanatory study. A questionnaire was developed using standard measures and distributed among 100 executive employees who are currently working in government commercial banks. Simple regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses developed to identify the impact on work overload, role ambiguity and role conflict on workplace incivility. Findings revealed that there is a significant impact of work overload on workplace incivility where role ambiguity and role conflict does not have an impact on workplace incivility. The study signifies that even though the impact of work overload, role ambiguity and role conflict on workplace incivility is visible in the western context, the same is not observed in the current study context.Item Impact of Employee Meaningfulness of Work on Employee Engagement: A Study of Non - Executive Level Employees in Private Banks in Gampaha District, Sri Lanka(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) Shashiprabha, H.W.P.U.; Jayarathna, S.M.D.Y.Human Resource is the life-blood of any organization, thus employee engagement has become a major concern in current organizational context. Therefore the current study focused on exploring the impact of employee meaningfulness of work on employee engagement with special reference to non- executive level employees of private banks in Gampaha district, Sri Lanka. Data were collected from 167 non-executive level employees through a standard questionnaire and distributed via google forms and printed questionnaires. The researcher analyzed data through SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) and simple regression analysis was used to test the impact of employee meaningfulness of work on employee engagement. Accordingly, findings of the current study revealed that employee meaningfulness of work positively impacts on employee engagement among non-executive level employees in private banks. Further, the study findings contribute to the knowledge of Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior and it adds value to the Sri Lankan research knowledge.
